What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Dietitian position at Applied Fitness Solutions?
Location: Ann Arbor, MI (Hybrid — minimum 3 days/week onsite at 4710 South State Rd. Ann Arbor, MI)
Compensation: $60,000–$80,000/year
Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, PTO, employee stock options
Who We Are
Applied Fitness Solutions (AFS) was built on a simple but radical belief: Every human being has the right to ownership and agency over their health.
We deliver lifestyle medicine—exercise, nutrition, and behavior-change—because it’s both the most effective and the most empowering form of healthcare. Our work is about transforming “patients” from passive recipients of care into active providers of their own health.
AFS is now rebranding and scaling into a healthcare company focused on preventive, movement- and nutrition-based care. Our long-term vision is to build a nationwide network of medically integrated locations where Exercise Physiologists, Registered Dietitians, and Health Coaches are recognized as mission-critical healthcare providers, not support staff.
Our Purpose: To help humanity reclaim ownership of their health by transforming the patient into the provider.
Our core values (who thrives here):
- Impact – You want your work to truly change lives, not just fill time.
- Humanity – You lead with compassion, humility, and curiosity.
- Growth – You’re open to intense personal and professional development.
- Wholeheartedness – You bring your full, authentic self to the work.
Our foundational principle: Our Members’ Health is Our Highest Obligation — always act accordingly.
If this resonates, you’re likely our kind of RD.
Role Overview
We are hiring a full-time Registered Dietitian to join our growing healthcare team in Ann Arbor.
In this role, you will:
- Deliver individualized nutrition care as part of a lifestyle medicine model.
- Work in tight collaboration with Exercise Physiologists and Health Coaches.
- Help us build and refine a scalable clinical model that can be replicated across future locations.
This is a hybrid role: you will work at least three days onsite each week with the rest of our clinical team, with some flexibility for virtual care and remote work for documentation and follow-ups.
This is not a side-gig RD role. It’s a foundational clinical position in a company intentionally evolving into a healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Direct Clinical Care
- Provide individualized medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and lifestyle counseling via onsite and virtual sessions.
- Support members with weight management, metabolic health, chronic disease risk reduction, digestive health, performance goals, and complex lifestyle-related issues.
- Use motivational interviewing and other behavior-change methods to build autonomy, confidence, and ownership over nutrition and health.
2. Integrated Team-Based Care
- Collaborate daily with Exercise Physiologists and Health Coaches to create unified care plans that align exercise, nutrition, and behavior strategies.
- Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews, care huddles, and outcome reviews.
- Serve as the primary nutrition expert on the care team while respecting and leveraging the expertise of other clinicians.
3. Documentation & Outcomes
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in our internal health and outcomes systems.
- Help shape how nutrition data, outcomes, and care plans are integrated into our broader clinical and technology infrastructure.
- Contribute to the development of evidence-based protocols and standardized workflows.
4. Program Development & Education
- Help design and refine nutrition programs, group offerings, and educational resources that scale.
- Support classes, workshops, webinars, and written content for members, partners, and (eventually) healthcare collaborators.
5. Culture & Principles
- Model AFS Core Principles in day-to-day work (e.g., “Our Members’ Health is Our Highest Obligation,” “Demand Excellence,” “Be Evidence-Based in ALL Aspects of the Business,” “Talk is Cheap—DO rather than Tell”).
- Participate actively in feedback, learning, and continuous improvement—personally and organizationally.
Performance Expectations
Success in this role looks like:
- Member Outcomes
- Members demonstrate improved clinical and behavioral markers (e.g., lab-driven risk markers when available, weight trends, energy, functional status, and self-efficacy).
- Members report feeling more empowered, confident, and in control of their nutrition and health journey.
- Clinical Excellence & Professionalism
- Sessions are punctual, prepared, and grounded in current evidence.
- Documentation is complete, timely, and aligned with internal standards.
- Collaboration & Communication
- You proactively communicate with the interdisciplinary team about member progress, barriers, and care-plan adjustments.
- You give and receive feedback with humility, clarity, and positive intent.
- Alignment With AFS Values & Principles
- You consistently operate from our values of Impact, Humanity, Growth, and Wholeheartedness.
- You embrace high standards, accountability, and continuous development as non-negotiables.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or closely related field
- Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential
- Active (or eligible for) Michigan RD license
- Ability to work full-time in a hybrid model (minimum three days onsite per week)
- Comfort with technology, telehealth, and digital documentation
Preferred Experience & Attributes
- Experience in lifestyle medicine, obesity treatment, medically integrated exercise, primary care, cardiometabolic clinics, or similar environments
- Strong foundation in behavior-change counseling and motivational interviewing
- Thrives in a start-up-like, growth-phase environment where systems are being built and refined
- Curious, coachable, and willing to engage in deep personal and professional development
- Values outcomes over optics—you care more about member health and system impact than appearances

- Paid time off (PTO)
- Employee stock options
