Applied Ecology, Inc., a small environmental consulting business with rapidly expanding footprint, is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Environmental or Civil Engineer to expand our Water Resources Service Line. This position requires a strong technical background in water resources engineering as well as the capability and interest to lead complex projects. AEI has three offices located in Florida and is a regional leader in water resources, ecological and natural resources, geospatial services, and environmental remediation and contamination services. This position can be based out of Tampa, Orlando, or Melbourne areas.

Qualified candidates must have demonstrated excellence in environmental or civil engineering courses and four years of experience working on water resources projects (design, planning, or/and studies). Competency is desired in one or more areas including surface water or stormwater management, water supply planning, wastewater treatment efficiency processes, water quality restoration, watershed management planning, shoreline design, coastal management, resilience and climate adaptation, or Low Impact Development/Green Infrastructure design.
Candidate must have a desire to participate on interdisciplinary research teams, be a natural problem-solver and be able to design, implement, monitor and evaluate water resource management and restoration projects.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced water resources engineer with some project management experience who is highly motivated to participate in innovative problem-solving to assist public sector clients address challenging environmental and ecological problems. Experience with federal and state contracts is preferred. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is results and quality-oriented and has attention to detail, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to learn and grow.
Position Description (Responsibilities & Duties)
- Assists project managers and team leads to execute work involving conventional and innovative environmental and ecological engineering designs and other related infrastructure projects
- Supports a variety of projects that may include planning, evaluation, design, and construction of wastewater, water resources management, and stormwater treatment systems
- Performs field assessments to evaluate and document existing site-specific conditions or collect design criteria or evaluation data
- Participates on interdisciplinary research teams to conduct environmental studies, permitting, and alternative analyses
- Perform calculations, prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports under supervision
- Check performance or conformity with design plans and specifications through field inspection and reporting
- Prepare technical work plans and reports
- Review local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance
- Apply approved standard operating practices to field and data management practices
- Assist with the development of technical submittals including letters, technical reports, figures, and tables
- Contribute to the development of proposals and scopes of work in response to client task requests
Minimum Requirements
- PE License in Florida or EIT certification with ability to obtain PE within 12 months of hire
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related water resources discipline; master’s degree preferred
- 4 years of experience in water resources engineering
- Knowledge of the regulatory processes in Florida
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office products
- Solid technical writing skills and effective communication skills
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License and good driving record required
- Due to the nature of the projects (DOD clients), US citizenship is required
Desired Requirements
- Experience with surface water, groundwater, and integrated modeling codes such as HEC-RAS, ICPR, MIKE-SHE, and/or SWMM
- Experience in AutoCAD and Civil 3D preferred, MEP/Revit, and hydraulic modeling platforms
- Experience with Green Infrastructure, Water Quality, or Coastal Resilience projects
- Related project management and/or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Federal experience, including DoD experience preferred
- LEED accreditation or other accepted “Green Rating System” and sustainable project experience
- Certified Floodplain Manager
