What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accountant position at AppleOne Technical Staffing?
Cost Accountant - Manufacturing
Orlando, FL (Fully Onsite)
$85,000 - $100,000 Benefits
Direct Hire
Are you a manufacturing Cost Accountant looking for a company where work-life balance isn't just a buzzword?
Our client is a well-established manufacturing organization supporting the aviation and defense industry with a reputation for a strong culture, long-term employee retention, and a collaborative team environment. This is an opportunity to join a stable organization where employees tend to build long-term careers.
Unlike many accounting environments, this team maintains a true 40-hour workweek. The manufacturing operation shuts down at the end of the day, and so does the accounting team. There are no regular after-hours expectations, no 60-hour month-end close weeks, and the company operates on an efficient 5-day close process.
What You'll Do
As a Cost Accountant, you'll play a key role in analyzing, reporting, and controlling manufacturing costs across multiple entities and locations. You'll partner closely with operations, engineering, inventory management, and leadership teams to support financial performance and operational efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
• Develop cost analysis and gross margin reporting for leadership.
• Analyze manufacturing costs including raw materials, labor, and overhead.
• Review job cost variances and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Monitor inventory valuation, shrinkage, scrap, and obsolescence.
• Support inventory cycle counts, physical inventories, and reconciliations.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams on Bill of Materials (BOM) updates.
• Track direct and indirect labor costs by manufacturing job and work center.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and CAPEX planning.
• Prepare journal entries and inventory-related account reconciliations.
• Support annual audits and month-end close activities.
• Participate in cost reduction and process improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with inventory accounting, cycle counting, and inventory reconciliations.
• Knowledge of manufacturing concepts such as BOMs, labor absorption, overhead allocation, raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
• Experience analyzing cost variances and manufacturing performance metrics.
• ERP experience required; Infor Syteline is a plus, but SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Business Central, or similar manufacturing ERP systems are welcome.
• Strong Excel, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently while partnering with cross-functional teams.
Schedule
• Monday-Friday.
• Flexible start time between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
• Choice of 30-minute or 60-minute lunch.
• True 40-hour workweek.
If you're looking for a manufacturing accounting role where you can make an impact while maintaining work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you.
