Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient Senior Tools and Automation Engineer to own the development, maintenance, and expansion of our test automation capabilities for iCloud's core products across iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS. The ideal candidate is a strong technical leader, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, possesses a deep understanding of software development principles, and is adept at creating robust, maintainable, and scalable automation solutions. You will analyze existing codebases, contribute to their improvement, and develop new automation strategies to address evolving business needs.
Most importantly, you are a creative problem-solver with a commitment to delivering high-quality results and mentoring other engineers.
Responsibilities
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $172,100 and $305,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Responsibilities
- Lead quality efforts across cross-functional teams.
- Identify automation requirements and design solutions to address test execution challenges.
- Analyze existing codebases and find opportunities for improvement.
- Design and implement automated tests for new and existing features using XCTest and other relevant tools.
- Collaborate with developers to ensure testability of code.
- Analyze test results, identify areas for improvement, and drive resolution.
- Mentor and guide other engineers in automation standard processes.
- Contribute to the overall quality and reliability of our products.
- BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 7 years of experience working as a Software Test Automation Engineer.
- Good understanding of software development lifecycles, testing methodologies, and QA processes.
- Proven Software QA/black box testing experience.
- Strong understanding and application of programming and scripting languages such as Swift and Python.
- Extensive experience in designing and building automated test frameworks.
- Proficient in creating automation test plans and test cases using XCTest.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate, debug, and triage difficult problems both independently and cooperatively.
- Ability to lead quality for cross-functional efforts.
- Proficient in programming and scripting languages such as Swift and Python.
- Experience identifying automation requirements and designing solutions to address test execution challenges.
- Proven experience in developing robust, maintainable, extensible, and scalable automation solutions.
- Experience using Xcode to write, triage, and debug automation scripts, as well as test harness enhancements, primarily focused on UI applications.
- Experience diagnosing and debugging complex systems.
- Exceptional collaborative skills including networking, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Comfortable and adaptable in a fast-paced and informal environment. Ability to respond and react to changing priorities quickly and efficiently.
- Proven experience working on multi-functional projects, collaborating with various teams to achieve project objectives.
- Creative thinker and strong problem solver.
- Familiarity with AI/ML model development, deployment, and evaluation.
- Experience working with or integrating AI-based QA platforms (e.g., Applitools, Testim, Mabl, Functionize).
