Summary
The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for administering a wide range of HR functions and supporting the full scope of human resources operations. This role provides guidance and assistance in areas such as recruiting, benefits administration, workers’ compensation, safety programs, training, and compliance. A strong understanding of labor laws and expertise in Leave of Absence (LOA) administration are essential for success in this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HR guidance to supervisors, managers, and staff.
- Address performance and grievance issues in compliance with labor laws, including drafting disciplinary and termination notices.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and job description management.
- Assist with training needs analysis and implementation of development programs.
- Collaborate with accounting to ensure accurate payroll processing, including benefits and status changes.
- Monitor performance appraisals and introductory periods.
- Maintain effective communication on HR policies and updates.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labor laws and regulations (AA/EEOC, ERISA, ADA, OSHA, etc.).
- Manage unemployment and workers’ compensation claims, including hearings and appeals.
- Support investigations of harassment, discrimination, or other employment-related matters in collaboration with legal counsel.
- Assist with emergency preparedness programs and response initiatives.
- Administer Leave of Absence programs in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Support employee benefits programs and reporting requirements (EEO, workers’ compensation).
- Implement customer service standards in all HR activities.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Experience:
- 2–3 years of progressive HR generalist experience with hands-on responsibility for core HR activities.
- Proven experience implementing HR policies and programs in a multi-office environment, preferably in professional or health services.
- Strong working knowledge of labor and employment laws and ability to apply them pragmatically across diverse situations.
- Experience interpreting benefits documents, contract provisions, and legal requirements related to employee benefits and LOA administration.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid California driver’s license or reliable transportation.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters professionally.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
