Job Summary
The Product Engineering Manager – Softgoods is responsible for leading and coordinating cross‑functional development activities for softgoods products from concept through prototype build and development completion. This role owns build execution, schedule coordination, material readiness, vendor management, issue tracking, and OEM partner alignment, ensuring programs are delivered on time, within scope, and to quality expectations. The role operates at the intersection of engineering, operations, and supply chain in a fast‑paced product development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Build & Development Execution
- Coordinate all build deliverables, including:
- Development schedules
- Build matrices
- Bills of Materials (BOMs)
- Entry and exit criteria
- Ensure build readiness across materials, tooling, documentation, and resources
- Drive on‑time execution of prototype and development builds
Cross‑Functional Program Coordination
- Coordinate and facilitate regular project calls with cross‑functional stakeholders, including:
- Product Development (PD)
- Design Engineering (DE)
- Test / Reliability
- Operations and Quality
- Supply Chain and Vendors
- Ensure alignment on scope, milestones, risks, and deliverables across teams
Materials & Supply Chain Management
- Manage material sourcing activities and track material lead times, including:
- MIH (Materials In‑House)
- TIH (Tooling In‑House)
- Ensure materials are available to support development and build schedules
- Oversee inventory of development materials and consumables
Vendor & Financial Management
- Manage vendor quotations and cost tracking
- Drive PO creation, processing, and approval workflows
- Track vendor invoicing and follow up on payments
- Serve as a primary interface between engineering teams and manufacturing vendors
Prototype Logistics & Packaging
- Manage prototype shipment logistics, including:
- iTracking systems
- Serial number assignment and tracking
- Oversee development packaging readiness to support transit, testing, and review activities
Issue Management & Program Risk
- Track, manage, and drive closure of open engineering, quality, and supply chain issues during development
- Escalate risks as needed and align stakeholders on mitigation plans
- Maintain clear documentation of decisions, actions, and program status
OEM & Facility Coordination
- Drive execution and alignment with OEM partners through development phases
- Liaise with onsite facility teams to resolve facility‑related issues impacting builds
- Ensure development spaces, equipment, and infrastructure needs are supported
Inventory & Compliance
- Oversee secure storage and handling of materials
- Manage secure disposal of confidential or sensitive materials in compliance with company policies
Required Qualifications
- BS/BA degree or equivalent professional experience
- 5-8 years of experience in project or program management
- Proven experience driving development programs for highly engineered consumer goods
- Strong organizational, coordination, and issue‑management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical experience with softgoods product development (textiles, sewn assemblies, flexible materials)
- Experience managing cross‑functional engineering teams
- Familiarity with prototype build phases (EVT / DVT / PVT or equivalent)
- Experience working with global OEMs and manufacturing vendors
