Position Overview

AR&E is seeking an Electromechanical Technician – Motors, Pumps & Generators to join our team. This position is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, rebuilding, maintaining, and servicing AC and DC electric motors, generators, pumps, gearboxes, and related rotating equipment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, a commitment to safety and quality workmanship, and a desire to continuously develop their technical skills.

Compensation: $28–$40/hour, based on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with overtime available and occasional weekend/emergency work as needed

Candidates with strong mechanical or electrical experience from related industries are encouraged to apply. Experience in electric motor repair is preferred but not required. AR&E provides training for qualified candidates who demonstrate mechanical aptitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Inspection & Diagnostics

  • Disassemble, inspect, and evaluate electric motors and rotating equipment to determine repair requirements.
  • Perform electrical and mechanical testing, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, vibration, and bearing assessments.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Document inspection findings and repair recommendations.

Repair & Rebuild

  • Repair, rebuild, and reassemble electric motors, generators, and related equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Replace bearings, seals, shafts, fans, and other mechanical components as required.
  • Assist with motor rewinds, coil replacement, and insulation system repairs.
  • Perform balancing, alignment, and final assembly procedures.

Testing & Quality Assurance

  • Conduct operational testing to verify equipment performance and reliability.
  • Complete required quality control inspections and test documentation.
  • Ensure repaired equipment meets customer specifications and AR&E quality standards.

Installation & Field Service

  • Install and remove motors and related equipment at customer facilities.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair activities in both shop and field environments.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and company personnel regarding equipment condition, repair findings, and recommended repairs.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and repair specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Technical school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or military training in electrical or mechanical maintenance.
  • Experience repairing electric motors, generators, pumps, or rotating equipment.
  • Knowledge of EASA repair practices and electric motor testing procedures.
  • Forklift, rigging, or crane operation experience.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and safely handle heavier equipment using overhead cranes, forklifts, hoists, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
  • Primarily works in an electromechanical repair shop, with occasional travel to customer sites and exposure to industrial machinery, noise, dust, and varying environmental conditions.
  • Work may occasionally involve elevated work areas and electrical equipment. Employees are expected to follow established lockout/tagout, electrical safety, and PPE procedures at all times.
