Responsibilities

  • Perform animal restraint and handling with confidence, ensuring safety for animals, clients, and staff
  • Assist veterinarians during surgeries, dental procedures, and diagnostic imaging such as X-ray and radiology diagnostics
  • Conduct laboratory work including phlebotomy, sample collection, and diagnostic testing using veterinary software systems
  • Administer medications, vaccines, and fluids via IV insertion or other routes with precision and aseptic technique
  • Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, including general anesthesia
  • Support emergency medicine efforts by providing critical & intensive care for animals in urgent situations
  • Operate medical equipment such as radiology machines, laboratory analyzers, and anesthesia machines while maintaining proper calibration and safety standards
  • Perform animal husbandry duties including providing pet care advice, and maintaining cleanliness in kennels, treatment, exam and surgical areas
  • Assist with diagnostic radiology procedures, animal catheterization, vascular access, and animal physiology assessments
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding treatment plans, post-operative care, and general pet health advice

Experience

  • Veterinary technician experience with a strong foundation in veterinary terminology
  • Kennel experience coupled with dog handling skills to manage various breeds safely and confidently
  • Laboratory experience including phlebotomy (blood draws), sample processing, and diagnostic testing techniques
  • Familiarity with veterinary software systems for record keeping and appointment scheduling. Preference will be made for individuals with ImproMed software experience.
  • Knowledge of anesthesiology principles applicable to general anesthesia management in small animals or equine patients
  • Hands-on experience with radiology diagnostics such as X-ray imaging and interpretation of diagnostic images
  • Ability to perform animal restraint using appropriate techniques for different species including dogs, cats, horses or other animals as needed
  • Strong understanding of animal physiology related to health assessments and emergency interventions

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Veterinary technician: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Veterinary Technician License in the state of Virginia (Required)
