Gardener I - Landscaping

Overview

Small sustainable and organic garden company seeking to add another crew member. Starting immediately. The company serves Henderson county and surrounding cities offering environmentally friendly landscaping,ecological garden designs and sometimes organic vegetable gardening services. Jobs are all over the county, but nothing further than a 30 min radius of Hendersonville. Type of work includes, but not limited to: mulching, hand weeding, soil moving, planting trees, shrubs, perennials,seeds, fertilizing (organic), hand pruning,leaf recycling, etc. No lawn work. The candidate needs to have a passion for horticulture, must have at least 2 years of working experience, and some education in the field is a major plus. They must also have a desire to learn and willingness to take instruction and be able to receive corrections. Candidates must be in excellent physical condition, very strong(ability to lift 50-60 lbs repetitively) and have great physical endurance. Must be able to tolerate various weather conditions- hot(80 degrees plus), cold(below freezing), rain, and wind,etc. This person needs to be able to properly dress for outside labor in a professional and clean manner, with excellent communication and genuine customer service skills. Must have reliable transportation. Must have exceptional work integrity and be reliable. There will be 1-2 working trial days before a job offer will be made .

Hours 12-20hrs/week.. If desired more hours might be available, up for discussion, but not guaranteed. Also the weather impacts the schedule. W2.

Duties

• Utilize hand tools and power tools for various gardening tasks, including planting, pruning, weeding, planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and managing plant care.
• Install gardens: This shift will include many hours of digging holes for new plants( usually in clay heavy soils).
• Irrigate plants and landscapes effectively to ensure optimal growth and health.
• Assisting in greenhouse operations, including planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and managing plant care.
• Conduct regular landscape maintenance to keep gardens tidy and attractive.
• Apply organic fertilizers and pest control applications
• Collaborate with team members on larger landscaping projects or veggie garden-related activities as needed.
• Removal of invasive plants
• Create compost systems
• The list of various garden duties goes on...

Qualifications

• Garden experience needed.
• Some horticulture/agriculture education preferred
• Grit: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions while performing physical tasks and maintain a good productive flow
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of garden aesthetics.
• Own mode of transportation- jobs are all around the Henderson county, may go to multiple jobs per shift.
