About the Position
The Human Resources Specialist plays a vital role within the Human Resources Department and works closely with other departments across the organization. The position holds primary responsibility for recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training ASP’s summer staff, fellows, and temporary staff, with an elevated focus on identifying and preparing strong candidates for summer program management positions.
During the summer, this role also oversees the implementation and management of ASP’s home repair program teams and programing elements in an assigned geographic area. Responsibilities include supervising summer staff, evaluating volunteer and staff experiences, providing spiritual leadership, ensuring programmatic quality, and managing budgets.
Additionally, this role supports broader organizational hiring efforts for full-time, part-time, and contract staff across departments and any other duties and responsibilities related to the smooth running of ASP’s mission and ministry.
Job Responsibilities
Recruitment & Hiring
- Lead end-to-end recruitment and selection processes for summer staff, Fellows, and Summer program managers.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead individual interviews and Staff Applicant Workshops (SAWs).
- Manage communication with temporary staff before and after summer, including paperwork, logistics, and expectations.
- Plan and implement the recruitment, interviewing, and placement of Staffers-in-Training (SITs).
- Work collaboratively across departments to meet seasonal and year-round staffing needs.
- Contribute to long-term pipeline development by engaging in events such as the Youth Leadership Summit.
Training & Summer Staff Supervision
- Lead planning and facilitation efforts of Summer Staff Training, including scheduling, speaker coordination, and logistics.
- Visit centers throughout the summer to provide in-person support, coaching, and supervision.
- Deliver timely verbal and written evaluations of summer staff, including Center Directors.
- Assess volunteer and staff experiences through evaluations and use insights to improve future program cycles.
- Ensure fiscal responsibility by monitoring and ensuring end-of-summer budgets are balanced for each assigned county.
Organizational Human Resources Support
- Assist with organization-wide recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding processes as requested.
- Support HR documentation, policy updates, and internal initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of a Professional Development Curriculum, with a specific focus on Fellows.
- Serve as a point of contact for internal professional development guidance and support.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain organized and accurate project files and personnel records.
- Adhere to timelines and deadlines for all projects and responsibilities.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance skills and effectiveness.
- Participate in regular evaluations and ongoing performance feedback.
Candidate Description
Required Education and Experience
- Four (4) years of combined relevant education and/or experience in recruitment, high school or college student program development, or other relevant experience
- Experience developing and executing effective recruitment strategies, including virtual and in-person outreach
- Experience with using data analysis to inform recruitment and outreach plans
- Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding recruitment goals
- Experience with pipeline development—working with high schools, colleges and universities, and/or community organizations
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students, volunteers, career counselors, and other stakeholders to enhance recruitment efforts
Required Skills and Abilities
- Ability to effectively represent ASP’s mission to diverse audiences at events such as careers fairs, recruitment events, and virtual information sessions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
- Technology skills and computer literacy, specifically to include: Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.); CRMs and ATSs for recruitment and staffing process management; and digital marketing tools
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including: travel for recruitment efforts throughout the year; summer travel to assigned counties; occasional evening and weekend availability for Summer management
- Strong cultural competence and commitment to developing a diverse pool of potential summer staff, interns, and volunteers
- Ability to manage personnel and provide clear, actionable feedback
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team environment

Other Requirements

- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Experience
- Previous ASP Summer Staff or Program Manager experience
- Experience with youth and college programs
- Construction knowledge and/or experience
- Supervisory experience, including giving performance feedback and coaching to success
