What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Electrical Engineer position at Apollo Technical?
Apollo Technical has an immediate need for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support our client, a highly successful and established US-based lighting electronics and power systems manufacturer, at their engineering facility in Tampa, Florida.
Position Overview
In this senior-level leadership role, you will take full technical ownership of the design and development of high-efficiency power supplies and AC/DC LED driver systems. As a Senior Electrical Engineer, your focus is entirely on the "stuff"—driving the full product lifecycle from initial concept investigation and simulation through hardware prototyping, validation, and transition into mass volume production. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will manage a team of Staff Electrical Engineers and serve as the principal technical authority guiding decision-making across the company’s extensive product catalog.
Key Responsibilities
- Power Supply Circuit Design: Create and own highly complex circuit schematics, component selection, and high-density PCB layouts engineered for industry-leading size and power density.
- Modeling & Simulation: Design, simulate, and calculate analytical models to predict design concept performance, circuit stability, and thermal limitations throughout the development cycle.
- Lifecycle & DfX Management: Incorporate strict guidelines for Design for Test (DfT), Design for Manufacturability (DfM), and Design for Reliability (DfR), ensuring smooth transition of designs into mass production.
- Team Mentorship: Supervise, guide, and mentor a direct report team of junior and Staff Electrical Engineers, leading peer-to-peer and cross-functional design review meetings.
- Lab Validation & Compliance: Prototype and physically test designs using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, surge generators), coordinating paths toward safety certifications (UL, CSA, CE, FCC).
- Global Manufacturing Collaboration: Interface weekly via virtual meetings with overseas manufacturing partners (primarily in China) and travel internationally as needed to support factory audits and product launch initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required.
- Core Experience: 5 years of professional engineering experience specifically focused on power electronics, power supplies, or AC/DC LED driver designs.
- Lifecycle Execution: Proven track record of personally taking power conversion designs from initial blank-page concept all the way through successful high-volume mass production.
- Domain Topologies: Deep technical expertise in offline power conversion topologies, including Flyback, Buck, Boost, PFC (Power Factor Correction), and Resonant LLC converters.
- Voltage Parameters: Direct experience engineering 120V–277V converter designs.
- Tools & Regulatory Standards: High proficiency with mainstream schematic editors, PCB layout tools, and circuit simulation packages, alongside a thorough understanding of UL/CSA/CE/FCC regulatory safety frameworks.
Highly Desirable "Nice to Haves"
- Experience generating custom manufacturing specifications for Magnetics (transformers, chokes, inductors).
- Baseline exposure to low-level firmware development (ANSI C based programming).
- Experience leveraging modern AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate circuit design and component optimization.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Our "Green Flag" candidate is an analytical, hands-on power electronics veteran who thrives in a lab environment just as much as they do leading cross-functional reviews. We need someone with the technical "grit" to troubleshoot stability issues at the register and component level while effectively translating engineering constraints to overseas manufacturing facilities. Exceptional communication skills are paramount, as this role collaborates directly with executive leadership and cross-functional teams daily.
