Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) Engineer (Level 3, 4, or 5)

Duration: 7–8 Month Contract (Strong possibility of conversion to full-time)
Pay Rate: $60–$80/hour (DOE)
Schedule: Hybrid – Onsite a couple of days per week
Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) Engineers to join a leading aerospace and defense engineering team in Huntsville, AL. This role is ideal for engineers with a strong background in materials engineering, material selection, process engineering, and aerospace or defense manufacturing.
In this position, you will work closely with engineering leadership to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards while supporting product design, manufacturing, supplier activities, and technical reviews throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support customer Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) requirements and compliance activities.
- Prepare and submit PMP documentation, including material approval packages, variances, supplier documentation, and subcontractor deliverables.
- Recommend appropriate materials based on performance, manufacturability, and environmental requirements.
- Develop and maintain material and process specifications.
- Review engineering drawings and manufacturing plans to ensure material compatibility and compliance.
- Provide technical support to suppliers and manufacturing teams.
- Participate in Engineering Review Boards, Process Change Boards, Failure Review Boards, and customer technical meetings.
- Present PMP status during Program Status Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR), Critical Design Reviews (CDR), and Technical Interchange Meetings.
- Evaluate corrosion risks, perform galvanic compatibility assessments, and recommend corrosion mitigation solutions for metallic components.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and sound engineering judgment to solve complex materials-related issues.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Experience supporting Parts, Materials & Process (PMP) activities within aerospace, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-11991 or other DoD/Agency PMP requirements (such as MDA PMAP).
- Experience writing material specifications and process specifications.
- Knowledge of ASTM standards and industry material specifications.
- Understanding of corrosion prevention, galvanic corrosion, and material compatibility.
- Ability to review engineering drawings and support design and manufacturing teams.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical information to customers and engineering leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Aerospace or defense industry experience.
- Experience working with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience participating in engineering design reviews and technical review boards.
