Job Summary

Thomas Steel Strip Corp., has an immediate opportunity for an Automation Engineer at our Warren, OH facility. The Electrical Controls & Reliability Supervisor is responsible for leading the electronic maintenance team while ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and continuous improvement of automated manufacturing equipment. This position oversees the maintenance, troubleshooting, and implementation of electrical control systems to minimize equipment downtime and maximize production performance. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of PLCs, drives, industrial control systems, and a proactive approach to equipment reliability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the electronic maintenance team in the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform and oversee testing, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, electronic, and automation systems to ensure reliable equipment performance.
  • Diagnose equipment failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee equipment upgrades, automation projects, and integration of new systems into existing manufacturing processes.
  • Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs, planned maintenance outages, equipment documentation, and technical manuals.
  • Improve equipment reliability by identifying opportunities to reduce downtime and implementing corrective and preventive maintenance strategies.
  • Create, assign, and track action items related to equipment reliability, maintenance improvements, and operational efficiency.
  • Train maintenance personnel and production employees on automated systems, equipment operation, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Develop and maintain technical training materials, standard operating procedures, and maintenance documentation.
  • Provide technical expertise in PLC programming, industrial networks, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo systems, HMIs, and other industrial control systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to improve equipment performance and support capital improvement projects.
  • Manage the department's planned maintenance budget, including ordering critical spare parts, inventory management, and equipment upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, electrical safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field; equivalent industrial experience may be considered.
  • Extensive experience with PLCs, industrial control systems, drives, HMIs, and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, automation, and machine processes.
  • Experience supervising maintenance personnel in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or other major PLC platforms.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, industrial networking, and motion control.
  • Knowledge of predictive and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets and capital improvement project

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing and industrial production environment.
  • Frequent exposure to electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to work during planned maintenance outages and respond to emergency equipment failures as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and work around industrial equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures, heights, and confined spaces when required.

Safety Expectations

  • Maintain compliance with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Promote a safety-first culture throughout the maintenance department.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical safe work practices, and established maintenance standard

Pay: $90,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
