SUMMARY

Supervise and lead the Extrusion department team to achieve plant objectives for safety, quality, on time delivery and teamwork. Work cooperatively with other support departments to achieve these objectives. Facilitate production schedule, assign personnel to designated working areas, assist with machine jam-ups, and restart machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must follow and hold team(s) accountable for all safety policies and procedures in effect on the production floor
  • Will perform all duties as outlines in the production inspector, setup and operator job descriptions
  • Approve employee vacation requests as well as track resources in advance to plan appropriately for coverage
  • Address employee disciplinary issues with the assistance of the Production Manager or Human Resources Manager
  • Work as a leader and member of a team, not only in the extrusion department, but in the company as a whole
  • Develop good working rapport with assistant supervisor and crew personnel and maintain good communication within the team
  • Work closely with the Production Scheduler to ensure production orders are completed on time and that required shop floor information and equipment (work instructions, drawings, tooling) are available to meet schedule
  • Provide consistent accurate updates to the Production Scheduler, Production and Plant Managers on issues like productivity, scheduling, or any issue that requires assistance
  • Will be held accountable on critical deadlines, quality issues, scrap rates, efficiencies, and all other significant information in a verbal or written format
  • Understand Quality System requirements. Be able to add to and improve on ISO 9001/14001 and OHSAS 18001 documents in order to continuously improve quality, environment and health and safety. Must be active on the shop floor, performing audits on extrusion paperwork, reviewing procedures with shop personnel and reviewing training monthly and advise personnel
  • Understand not only extrusion paper work, but all aspects of paper flow inside SPG
  • Able to enter all extrusion department data into IFS accurately and efficiently
  • Must be proficient with computer software, including MS Office, IFS and payroll system
  • Take assignments and work in an efficient manner, striving to complete requirements in allotted time
  • Conduct performance appraisals for the extrusion crew, setup personnel, and production inspectors
  • Track attendance and report any problems to manager
  • Understand and teach die book reading and be capable of verify parts to product drawings
  • Keep personnel focused and address personnel issues in a professional manner
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled and maintain a good attendance record
  • Other duties as assigned by management team

Responsibility for Work of Others

  • Extrusion crew, support, production inspectors and dotted line of material handlers.

Qualifications and Education

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred; four-year college degree desirable
  • Able to provide history of at least 2 years’ experience where work has been performed in an assistant supervisor or supervisor capacity
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and bilingual ability a plus
  • Must be able to understand and oversee all aspects of extrusion equipment and processes
  • Even-tempered, friendly disposition with a positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to grasp and execute duties with minimal verbal instruction
  • Strong mathematical skills required
  • Computer literacy required
  • Learn/able to read mechanical drawings to use any means outlined as necessary to measure and qualify parts as production capable and meeting quality conformance criteria and have a mechanical aptitude
  • Must be able to work flexible work schedule based on production schedule an needs
  • Be certified or able to be certified in First Aid/CPR

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs when required

Work Environment

  • Production environment is moderately noisy
  • Able to walk, stand and otherwise perform job functions on concrete floors with safety boots/shoes
