Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operator to perform underground utility installation on roadways. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating directional drilling equipment and locating systems, and be capable of working safely in a fast-paced construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate HDD equipment (Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar) for installation of conduit, fiber, and underground utilities
- Read and interpret bore plans, utility locates, and project plans
- Perform bore setup, alignment, and drilling operations
- Track drill head using locating systems (Digitrak or similar)
- Ensure bore path accuracy and avoid existing utilities
- Mix drilling fluids (mud) and monitor pressures
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Work closely with crew members (locator, laborers, foreman)
- Follow all safety protocols, including traffic control and underground utility protection
Maintain production goals while ensuring quality work
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years HDD operating experience (more preferred for lead operator)
- Experience with fiber, conduit, or electrical installations
- Ability to read construction plans and bore profiles
- Knowledge of locating systems (Digitrak, Subsite, etc.)
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required)
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Standing, bending, and working long hours as needed
- Working in construction zones near traffic
Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
