High Ability Teacher

Apogee School For The Gifted
Indianapolis, IN Full Time
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/3/2026

Apogee School for the Gifted welcomes résumés from caring, creative, and adaptable elementary educators interested in potential teaching opportunities in grades K–6. We seek teachers who enjoy nurturing curiosity, providing meaningful academic challenge, and supporting students’ social and emotional growth.

Founded in 2016, Apogee School for the Gifted is a private, nonprofit, state accredited school that serves gifted, profoundly gifted (PG), and twice-exceptional (2e) learners. Apogee is a close-knit community of approximately 40 students across kindergarten through high school. The past five years have been a consistent 20% growth in enrollment. Our 10 year goal is to grow and cap enrollment at 150 students.

Our approach combines advanced learning opportunities with social and emotional support through the lens of Developmental Neuroscience within a tightknit community. We recognize that a student may be ready for advanced academic work while still needing support with organization, emotional regulation, or social interactions. Classrooms are capped at 12-14 students to give teachers flexibility to individualize each child's learning plan. Our teachers respond to the whole child with flexibility, patience, and respect.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging instruction and adapt it to students’ readiness, strengths, and learning needs.
  • A patient, respectful approach to classroom management and student support.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn about giftedness, twice-exceptionality, and neurodivergent learners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and school leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Indiana teaching license appropriate for elementary (K-6) instruction.
  • High Ability endorsement or completion of a gifted education certificate or graduate program.
  • Elementary classroom teaching experience.
  • Experience working with gifted or twice-exceptional students.
  • Experience or training in special education, autism, ADHD, or executive functioning support.
  • Experience with differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, and interdisciplinary projects.

Essential Job Functions

  • Plan and teach engaging lessons aligned with academic standards while allowing appropriate depth, complexity, and acceleration.
  • Differentiate instruction for students whose academic readiness may vary across subjects.
  • Establish a welcoming classroom with clear routines, consistent expectations, and supportive relationships.
  • Support students’ social and emotional development, including providing calm co-regulation when students become overwhelmed or dysregulated.
  • Collaborate with families, colleagues, and support professionals to develop and implement effective learning and behavior supports.
  • Assess student progress and use the results to guide instruction.
  • Administer required school and state assessments, as applicable to the assigned grades.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, successes, and concerns.
  • Participate in team planning, professional learning, and school community activities.

Please submit your résumé and a brief cover letter describing your interest in Apogee and your approach to working with gifted, PG, and twice-exceptional learners. Include the elementary grade levels and subjects you feel best prepared to teach, your licensure status, and your anticipated availability. Candidates may express interest in particular grades; applicants do not need to be equally experienced across all grades K–6. We will contact candidates as opportunities align with their qualifications and interests.
