The Medical/Orthopedic Unit is a 34-bed acute care inpatient unit located on 5 West. In addition to the
focus in the specialty areas of medical and orthopedic patient care, quality patient care is offered in other areas including general surgery, infectious disease, and management of acute and chronic illness.
SPECIAL PROCEDURES:
Orthopedic Program:
The orthopedic program is designed to provide a continuum of care from pre-admission through
hospitalization and discharge. While in the Hospital, the focus is on patient care, ongoing education and multidisciplinary support. This is achieved by the collaboration and involvement of physicians, nursing personnel, physical therapy,
occupational therapy, pharmacy, social services and dietitians. Discharge from the unit will take into
consideration the patient’s desires and their rehabilitation needs. Patients may be discharged to home, a skilled nursing facility, or a rehabilitation facility depending on the level of care needed. The hospital staff ensures that patients are discharged safely and have the necessary equipment for home use, as well as the necessary education and resources to promote optimal recovery.
Medical Program:
The acute care medical program is designed to fulfill a wide range of patient care needs. A support staff including a unit-based pharmacist, a diabetes nurse educator, respiratory care, rehabilitation services, a dietitian, a bereavement coordinator, a chaplain, and a unit-based social worker offers multidisciplinary care. This staff is committed to providing quality patient care with a strong focus on patient education.
