Position Overview
The Behavioral Support Specialist works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of behavioral support services for individuals receiving care through APluscare. This role focuses on helping individuals achieve positive behavioral outcomes while ensuring services follow all applicable program standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
The Behavioral Support Specialist collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams, residential staff, and clinical professionals to support effective behavior intervention strategies and maintain continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of behavioral support services that address the evolving needs of individuals receiving services.
- Ensure behavior support plans and related programs comply with applicable legal requirements, regulatory standards, and agency policies for each individual served.
- Under the guidance of a BCBA, provide training and support to Program Supervisors, Program Coordinators, and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) on implementing formal behavior support plans.
- Monitor behavioral interventions and assist with making adjustments when necessary to improve effectiveness.
- Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) and clinical staff to develop and implement behavior intervention strategies that align with the agency's service model and internal policies.
- Maintain familiarity with and adhere to Department of Human Services (DHS) and Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Serve as a point of communication between APluscare, clients, families, staff members, and DHS/DDD representatives to ensure coordinated care and support.
- Coordinate with clinical teams, IDT members, and other stakeholders to maintain the integrity and consistency of behavioral support programs.
- Conduct regular weekly visits to residential programs to observe and evaluate the effectiveness of behavioral interventions for individuals served.
- Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by APluscare leadership.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychology or a related field required.
- Master's degree in Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Special Education, or another approved discipline may also be considered.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to demonstrate creativity and flexibility while managing significant responsibilities.
- Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds is highly valued.
Additional Requirements:
- Must cooperate with licensing authorities and relevant department staff during inspections or investigations.
- Must successfully complete and demonstrate competency in all required training programs.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
Salary : $50,000 - $68,000
