Role Description This is a part-time, on- and off-site role based in Durham, NC for a Tutor and Teacher for High School Students. In this role, you will provide individualized and small-group instruction in subjects aligned with high school curricula and standardized test preparation, helping students build skills, confidence, and effective study habits. You will deliver engaging lessons, assess student progress, and adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs. Daily responsibilities include preparing instructional materials, providing clear explanations and feedback, maintaining accurate records of student performance, and communicating regularly with students, families, and staff. You will also collaborate with the APlus Test Prep team to ensure consistency in curriculum, support program goals, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Education and Teaching, with experience supporting high school students in academic subjects and/or test preparation.
- Ability to create effective Lesson Planning materials and tailored instructional strategies that address varied learning styles and goals.
- Excellent Communication skills, including clear explanation of concepts, constructive feedback, and professional interactions with students, families, and colleagues.
- Experience in Training or coaching students to develop study skills, test-taking strategies, and academic confidence.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, a subject area relevant to high school coursework, or a closely related field preferred.
- Experience working with diverse student populations and a commitment to equitable and inclusive educational practices.
- Ability to manage small groups, maintain a focused classroom environment, and use data to monitor and support student progress.
- Availability to work part-time on-site in Durham, NC, including some after-school or weekend hours as needed.
