Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Salary: $50,000 – $70,000 per year
Schedule: Monday – Friday, Day Shift

Take ownership of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) programs at a small, specialized manufacturing company where your work makes a visible impact every day. APL Engineered Materials is seeking an EHS Specialist to lead safety programs and regulatory compliance at our Urbana facility.

This hands-on role allows you to work directly with leadership to shape our safety culture, manage safety programs, and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements. Early-career professionals are welcome — training is provided for systems you haven’t used yet.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and EHS programs, employee training, and internal audits

• Prepare and submit regulatory reports (OSHA 300, EPA TRI, IEPA Hazardous Waste, Tier II, etc.)

• Maintain required permits and regulatory accounts (EPA, OSHA, IEMA, IEPA)

• Coordinate inspections and certifications with regulatory agencies, fire marshals, and contractors

• Manage licenses and permits, support hazmat shipping compliance, and emergency response planning

• Monitor regulatory updates and maintain accurate safety documentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemistry, or related field (or equivalent experience)

• 1–3 years of experience in EHS, safety, or regulatory compliance

• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations; experience with EPA, DOT, or state reporting systems is helpful but not required

• Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred Certifications (not required): CSP or CHMM

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
