Residential Manager

The Residential Manager is responsible for ensuring the creation and maintenance of a safe, healthy, and supportive environment for individuals served in the residential program. This position oversees the daily operations of assigned residential sites and provides direct supervision to Lead Direct Support Professionals (DSP Leads) and Direct Support Professionals (DSPs).

The Residential Manager ensures services are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, licensing standards, and federal and state regulations. The Residential Manager serves as a role model for staff, demonstrating professionalism, effective communication, and appropriate interactions with individuals served, families, and community partners.

This is a full-time hourly position eligible for overtime (with approval). The Residential Manager is expected to work a 40-hour workweek in ratio, with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or unscheduled hours when needed to support staffing coverage and emergencies.


Major Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Staff Supervision

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to DSP Leads and DSP staff.

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, evaluation, and disciplinary actions for residential staff.

  • Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage and compliance with staffing ratios.

  • Conduct team meetings and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.

  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and adherence to organizational values.


Residential Operations

  • Oversee the daily operation of assigned residential sites.

  • Maintain a safe, home-like environment that supports independence and well-being.

  • Ensure the residence meets all licensing, safety, and regulatory standards.

  • Monitor the upkeep of facilities and coordinate maintenance as needed.

  • Conduct safety checks, fire drills, and facility inspections according to policy.


Direct Support and Participant Care

  • Support individuals in activities of daily living including:

    • Meal planning and preparation

    • Personal hygiene and grooming

    • Household maintenance

    • Community engagement and recreation

  • Promote independence and skill development in areas such as self-care, social skills, and community living.

  • Encourage participation in community activities and relationships.

  • Ensure individuals receive necessary medical, behavioral health, and social services.


Medical and Medication Oversight

  • Ensure medication policies and procedures are followed by staff.

  • Conduct medication audits and weekly medication counts.

  • Monitor medication administration documentation.

  • Coordinate medication refills and ensure discontinued medications are disposed of properly.

  • Communicate medication concerns or side effects to the Assistant Regional Director and healthcare providers.


Documentation and Compliance

  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation including:

    • Daily progress notes

    • Incident reports

    • Medication administration records

    • Treatment plans and data collection

  • Assist in the development and review of Individual Habilitation Plans (IHPs) and treatment plans.

  • Prepare monthly reports for referring agencies, guardians, or families.

  • Maintain compliance with all agency policies and state regulatory requirements.


Behavioral and Crisis Management

  • Identify behavioral concerns and monitor changes in individuals’ conditions.

  • Utilize crisis intervention strategies to prevent or manage crisis situations.

  • Communicate behavioral concerns to the interdisciplinary team.

  • Assist in identifying strategies to prevent future crises.


Community Engagement

  • Support individuals in developing life skills including:

    • Budgeting and money management

    • Community safety

    • Social interaction

    • Vocational and pre-vocational skills

  • Promote participation in recreational and social activities within the community.


Financial and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Manage household budgets and petty cash accounts.

  • Maintain accurate financial records and receipts.

  • Ensure individuals have adequate clothing and personal supplies.

  • Assist with admissions and transitions for individuals entering the program.


On-Call and Emergency Responsibilities

  • Participate in the organization’s on-call rotation system.

  • Respond to emergencies and provide after-hours support as needed.

  • Work flexible hours to support program operations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum three years of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illness.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.


Additional Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.

  • Valid non-provisional driver’s license for 3 years minimum

  • Personal vehicle with state minimum liability insurance.

  • Ability to pass required background checks, abuse registry checks, and drug screenings.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical activities during shifts.

  • Assist individuals with mobility or personal care needs.

  • Drive program vehicles as required.

Work environments may include:

  • Residential homes

  • Community locations

  • Program offices.
