JOB SUMMARY

The Field Service Technician is a hands-on technical role for someone who enjoys working directly with industrial equipment, traveling to customer sites, solving problems, and seeing projects through from installation and startup to successful operation.

 

This position will travel up to 75% to customer locations to install, commission, troubleshoot, and support custom water treatment and process equipment. While onsite at customer locations, the Field Service Technician serves as a key technical resource and primary point of contact for customers, providing hands-on support and training to ensure equipment is operating safely, efficiently, and as designed.

 

When not traveling, this position will work from our St. Michael, MN facility, supporting equipment production, troubleshooting, factory acceptance testing and preparation for upcoming field installations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong electrical and mechanical aptitude who wants variety in their work, enjoys being in the field, and is comfortable working independently while remaining closely connected to our engineering, production, project management, and service teams.

 

JOB DUTIES:

  • Travel up to 75% to customer sites to provide hands-on installation, startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and technical support for custom water treatment and process equipment.
  • Serve as the primary onsite technical contact for customers during field service visits, addressing equipment issues, answering questions, and helping ensure successful startup and operation.
  • Start up, troubleshoot, test, and operate equipment at customer facilities and provide hands-on training to customer personnel on proper equipment operation.
  • Diagnose equipment and system issues using knowledge of industrial electrical wiring, PLC programming/Ladder Logic, motor controls, instrumentation, mechanical systems, and related components.
  • Apply knowledge of chemical dosing, chemical feed systems, usage, and testing when commissioning and troubleshooting water treatment equipment.
  • Assist regional service teams with equipment changeouts, chemical feed systems, system operations, troubleshooting, and technical training.
  • Use knowledge of fluid dynamics, calculations, electrical diagrams, blueprints, and equipment documentation to diagnose problems and support successful field installations.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Production, Industrial Controls, and other internal teams to resolve field issues and identify opportunities to improve equipment design, functionality, reliability, and serviceability.
  • Provide real-world feedback from customer sites to help improve future equipment designs, installations, and operating procedures.
  • When not traveling, support equipment production and fabrication activities at the St. Michael facility, including component installation, equipment preparation, troubleshooting, and other hands-on technical support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of field service activities, including troubleshooting performed, solutions implemented, equipment status, and recommendations for follow-up or future improvements.
  • Ensure equipment and systems meet Company quality standards and perform all work in accordance with customer and Company safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in field service, equipment installation, industrial maintenance, electrical work, technical support, equipment manufacturing, or a related technical field.
  • Strong electrical aptitude and experience working with industrial electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, motor controls, instrumentation, industrial wiring, and/or electrical troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex equipment and systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently diagnose issues in the field.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams, blueprints, equipment drawings, and other technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work directly with customers and explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues under time-sensitive field conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% to customer sites (overnight travel)
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Willingness and ability to work in non-temperature-controlled environments and around chemicals commonly found in industrial water treatment applications. Appropriate safety equipment, procedures, and training will be provided.
  • Ability to perform work requiring sitting, standing, crouching, bending, kneeling, climbing, and other physical movements necessary to install, commission, and service equipment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous field service or commissioning experience with industrial equipment.
  • Experience with water treatment, process equipment, pumps, chemical feed systems, filtration systems, or other fluid-handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemical processes, chemical dosing, and analytical testing.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The anticipated hourly rate for this position is between $30 - $38/hr, depending on qualifications and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with company match, and paid time off.
