Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, barriers, signs, and flagging equipment to guide vehicles and pedestrians safely around construction zones
- Direct traffic flow at active work sites using hand signals, flagging tools, or stop/slow paddles to ensure safety for workers and the public
- Monitor work zones continuously to identify potential hazards or unsafe conditions and take corrective action promptly
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, drivers, and pedestrians to provide clear instructions and updates
- Assist with the installation and removal of temporary traffic control infrastructure in accordance with project plans and safety regulations
- Conduct routine inspections of traffic control setups to ensure compliance with local laws and safety standards
- Maintain detailed records of daily activities, incidents, and safety checks to support project documentation
Requirements
- Proven experience in construction site operations or utility locating is highly preferred
- Familiarity with heavy equipment operation including dozer, loader operation, backhoe operation, grader operation, front loader trucks, dump trucks, or paving equipment is a plus
- Ability to operate traffic control devices confidently using tools such as flags, signs, or signal lights
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and traffic management regulations (including OSHA guidelines)
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with team members and directing traffic effectively
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects safely, and work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Experience working with Caterpillar machinery or similar heavy equipment is advantageous
