Technical Writer II / Instructional Designer – ADMT

Location: Hybrid (Primarily Remote – onsite ~1x/month preferred)

Duration: 2-Year Contract

Schedule: Standard Business Hours

Overview

Apex Systems is partnering with a leading utility client to identify a Technical Writer II / Instructional Designer to support their Advanced Distribution Management Team (ADMT).

This role will help develop and maintain training materials, job aids, and system documentation for critical grid operations applications, including the Outage Management System (OMS) and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS).

You will work closely with subject matter experts, application teams, and stakeholders to translate complex technical processes into clear, user-friendly content that supports over 500 operational users across Electric Distribution Operations (EDO).

This is a high-impact opportunity to support innovative technology initiatives that directly enhance grid operations, system performance, and the overall user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials including eLearning courses, job aids, and system documentation
  • Create engaging, interactive learning content to support application adoption
  • Update documentation and training materials as systems evolve or processes change
  • Publish and manage course content, including ownership and user access
  • Create and maintain documentation standards and release note templates
  • Build and maintain documentation libraries within SharePoint
  • Produce training videos and integrate multimedia into learning materials
  • Partner with SMEs and project teams to validate technical accuracy
  • Track documentation through the full lifecycle: creation, review, approval, publication, and updates
  • Ensure all materials align with internal branding and quality standards
  • Collaborate across IT, operations, and vendor teams to gather requirements and deliver solutions

Required Qualifications

  • Experience in technical writing, instructional design, or learning & development (L&D)
  • Experience creating eLearning content and online training modules
  • Experience with video creation and multimedia content development
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly content
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across cross-functional teams
  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting enterprise or operational systems (OMS, ADMS, or similar)
  • Familiarity with documentation tools, LMS platforms, and SharePoint
  • Experience working in utility, energy, or critical infrastructure environments
