Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on BI Data Engineer to support the modernization of our business intelligence and data platform. This individual will initially focus on analyzing, rationalizing, and cleaning up a large Tableau Cloud reporting environment. The role will then help support the transition of priority reporting solutions from Tableau to Power BI and Microsoft Fabric. This is an opportunity for a technically strong Tableau professional who wants to expand into Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and modern data architecture. The successful candidate will work closely with internal data and database teams, business stakeholders, and an external implementation partner.
Key Responsibilities
This is a remote role within the United States. Eastern or Central time zone availability is preferred. The resource will work closely with internal data and database teams, an external implementation partner, and business stakeholders. The individual will receive overall project direction and will not be expected to independently manage the complete migration program.

Key Responsibilities
- Assess and document the existing Tableau Cloud reporting environment.
- Analyze report, workbook, and user-activity data to understand actual usage.
- Query Tableau metadata and repository data to identify reporting trends and dependencies.
- Identify duplicate, outdated, orphaned, unused, or low-value reports and workbooks.
- Recommend reports for retention, consolidation, retirement, or migration.
- Help reduce and right-size the inventory of Tableau content before migration.
- Analyze high-value Tableau reports, including calculations, data sources, dependencies, and LOD expressions.
- Support the mapping of Tableau features and LOD expressions to Power BI and DAX capabilities.
- Participate in the migration and redevelopment of selected Tableau reports in Power BI.
- Work with an external implementation partner to understand migration patterns, standards, architecture, and technical processes.
- Serve as a technical liaison between internal teams and the implementation partner.
- Receive and document knowledge transfer so the internal team can continue migration work after the partner engagement concludes.
- Support the organization’s adoption of Microsoft Fabric and its modern data architecture.
- Develop hands-on knowledge of Fabric components and data-layer concepts.
- Assist with technical validation, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation throughout the migration.
- Collaborate with database administrators, data professionals, and business stakeholders.
- Help communicate the impact of report cleanup and retirement decisions to appropriate users.
- Provide limited support for existing Tableau operations and user requests when needed.
- Continue developing toward a long-term role supporting or administering Microsoft Fabric and the organization’s modern BI platform.
- * Experience with migrations.
- Two to five years of relevant experience in business intelligence, data engineering, analytics engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong hands-on experience developing or supporting Tableau solutions in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with Tableau calculations and Level of Detail (LOD) expressions.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Experience analyzing reporting usage, metadata, dependencies, or platform activity.
- Understanding of data sources, reporting architecture, data transformation, and BI development practices.
- Experience working with technical teams on complex data or analytics initiatives.
- Ability to investigate an existing reporting environment and translate findings into clear technical recommendations.
- Ability to learn new platforms, languages, and architectural concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Interest in expanding beyond Tableau into Power BI, DAX, Microsoft Fabric, and modern data platforms.
- Experience with Tableau Cloud.
- Experience querying Tableau repository or metadata information, potentially using PostgreSQL.
- Previous experience rationalizing or cleaning up a large Tableau or enterprise BI environment.
- Experience migrating reports from Tableau to Power BI.
- Experience migrating Tableau content to another BI or analytics platform.
- Experience with Power BI.
- Familiarity with DAX and the translation of Tableau LOD logic into Power BI calculations.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric.
- Experience with ETL or ELT processes.
- Understanding of lakehouse architecture and bronze, silver, and gold data-layer concepts.
- Alteryx experience.
- Experience working with an implementation partner or consulting organization.
- Experience supporting a data-platform modernization initiative.
