What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Biller and Collection Specialist position at Apex Medical Center?
Overview
Join our team as a Medical Biller specializing in Pain Management and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) billing. This is a high-accountability, in-office role focused primarily on interventional pain procedures and surgical facility billing, with our practice also covering primary care and mental health billing. You'll work directly with claims, denials, prior authorizations, and payment posting — not coding from scratch, but ensuring accurate billing, fast reimbursement, and clean AR for specialties where documentation and prior auth requirements are heavily scrutinized by payers. If you already know pain management/ASC billing and want a role with clear expectations and no ambiguity about what success looks like, this is for you.
Duties
- Submit and follow up on claims for pain management procedures (injections, nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation) and ASC facility/professional billing
- Work denials to full resolution — correct, rebill, or appeal with documentation, not just resubmit and hope
- Post payments from ERAs/EOBs and reconcile against expected reimbursement
- Manage prior authorizations for interventional procedures such as epidural injections, RFA, and spinal cord stimulator trials
- Support billing for primary care and mental health services as needed (training provided for payer-specific nuances in these lines)
- Track and report AR aging, clean claim rate, and denial trends
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and payer-specific billing requirements
Qualifications
- 3 years medical billing experience, with direct experience in pain management and/or ambulatory surgery center billing required
- Working knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding as it applies to interventional pain procedures and ASC facility fee billing
- Experience managing prior authorization workflows for interventional procedures
- Comfortable working denial codes (CARC/RARC) independently
- Required: experience with NextGen and Collaborate MD
- Preferred: familiarity with primary care and/or mental health billing (session limits, authorization requirements)
- Preferred: CPB, CPC, or CCS certification
- Strong attention to detail and clear written communication for payer correspondence and appeals
Pay: $19.00 - $25.00 per hour
Benefits:
- 401(k)
- Dental insurance
- Health insurance
Work Location: In person
Salary : $19 - $25
