What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sales Representative - AI Estimating software for Contractors position at Apex Estimate?
Apex Estimate is an AI-powered estimating platform built for construction subcontractors. Our software analyzes floor plans, calculates real-world quantities, and generates production-ready estimates based on organization-defined pricing methods. Everything is transparent and correctable end-to-end for accuracy assurance, easy change orders, and user confidence.
We’re a fast-moving, product-led startup focused on bringing enterprise-grade automation to small and mid-sized contractors. We combine advanced computer vision and AI with a simple, contractor-friendly workflow.
We’re now hiring a Sales Representative – AI Estimating Software for Contractors to drive outbound growth and help bring this technology to the trades.
Role OverviewThis is a full-cycle, outbound-heavy sales role.
You’ll be responsible for finding and engaging subcontractors ranging from painters to window suppliers; running demos of our platform; and closing new subscriptions. You’ll work closely with the founder, influence go-to-market strategy, and play a key role in shaping how Apex Estimate grows.
If you enjoy picking up the phone, crafting targeted outreach, and turning “I’m not sure about AI” into “I can’t imagine going back,” this role is for you.
What You’ll DoProspecting & Pipeline Creation (major focus)
- Build and manage targeted lists of contractors and trades across the U.S.
- Run high-activity outbound: calls, emails, and LinkedIn outreach.
- Qualify prospects based on company size, estimating workflow, and software readiness.
- Bring experience and fresh ideas to the table to drive new company sales strategies.
Discovery, Demos & Closing
- Run discovery calls to understand current takeoff/estimating processes and pain points.
- Deliver clear, compelling demos of Apex Estimate to owners, estimators, and project managers.
- Handle common objections (price, change-aversion, “we already have a system”) with confidence.
- Own the full sales cycle from first outreach → demo → proposal → closed-won.
Customer Onboarding & Success (light but important)
- Help new customers get through their first projects and see value quickly.
- Collect feedback on where they get stuck and what features they love or wish existed.
- Partner with the founder to refine product, pricing, and positioning based on real conversations.
Sales Process & Playbook Building
- Help refine outbound scripts, email sequences, and talk tracks.
- Log activities, notes, and pipeline stages consistently.
- Share insights from the field to improve our website messaging, FAQs, and demo flow.
Must-Haves
- Proven comfort with outbound: you’re not afraid of the phone, and you know how to follow up.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to explain a technical product in plain language.
- Self-starter who can manage their own time, prioritize outreach, and hit activity/meeting/close goals.
- Competitive, coachable, and motivated by clear targets.
- Embrace and drive fast paced change. You will help set the guiding strategies and culture of Apex Estimate’s sales division.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience selling SaaS or subscription software.
- Experience selling to construction, trades, or home services (painting is a plus).
- Familiarity with blueprints, takeoffs, or estimating workflows.
- Startup experience.
- Compensation: Modest base salary uncapped commission. We launch our first products January 2026. If you believe in the vision of the company and have confidence in yourself, there is massive first-year commission potential.
- Early opportunity to shape our sales playbook, culture, and processes.
- Close partnership with the founder and direct influence on product roadmap.
- High autonomy, minimal bureaucracy, and a clear, fast path to grow into Senior Rep or Sales Leader as the company scales.
- Remote-friendly and flexible work environment.
- You like talking to real people—contractors, estimators, business owners—not just “leads.”
- You’re energized by outbound: building your own pipeline is exciting, not scary.
- You’re curious about AI but don’t need to be a deep tech expert—you can learn what you need and translate it into practical value.
- You want to get in early at a company where your results are obvious and your impact is visible.
