Position: Assistant Operations Manager
Company Overview:
Apex Coating LLC specializes in the preservation of commercial and government contracts which include surface preparation and coating applications for industrial assets, including ships, bridges, tanks, and other structures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide production oversight coordinating across production, quality, safety, and external stakeholders.
- Responsible for supporting new company initiatives throughout the research and implementation phases
- Track production progress, efficiency, budget vs. actual, and inventory
- Provides daily supervision of production, department operations and personnel
- Acts as a change agent and ensures efficient and high-quality operations, making necessary adjustments to meet daily production goals and requirements.
- Monitors personnel and resources, evaluates methods, implements cost-saving measures, and develops reporting procedures and systems.
- Engage in production planning starting from mobilization, work plan, material procurement, equipment requirement, to demobilization.
- Communicates clearly, prioritizes tasks effectively and collaborates within a team environment.
- Act as a company liaison with the customer, cross departments, and external trades
- Provide on-site support on an ad-hoc basis.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.
- 3–5 years of progressively responsible experience in operations management, production management, project coordination, or supervisory roles within the industrial coatings, marine, shipbuilding, ship repair, heavy industrial, construction, or related industries preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing field operations, production schedules, personnel, equipment, materials, and subcontractors in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of industrial painting, abrasive blasting, surface preparation, coatings application, equipment operations, or comparable industrial processes.
- Experience coordinating multiple projects while balancing labor, equipment, material, quality, safety, and budget requirements.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, environmental regulations, and customer or shipyard safety requirements.
- Proven leadership ability with experience supervising, mentoring, coaching, and developing employees.
- Strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, management, and field personnel.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any customer-required credentials, security clearances, or site access authorizations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting operations for maritime, shipyard, or heavy industrial projects.
- Knowledge of AMPP/SSPC standards, NAVSEA requirements, and marine coatings specifications.
- Experience with production planning, resource allocation, equipment logistics, procurement, and inventory management.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification or willingness to obtain.
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Korean, or English/Mandarin) is a plus.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb ladders and gangways, work at heights while using fall prevention equipment, and navigate shipyards and vessels.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds over short distances, including stairs and steep inclines.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
- The role may require flexibility in posture, including long periods of sitting, standing, bending, crouching, and climbing on scaffolding, ladders, and over structural members of boats and barges.
