What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Finance position at Apex Brand Collection?
DIRECTOR OF FINANCE – MULTI-UNIT RESTAURANT GROUP
Apex Brand Collection | Boise, Idaho | Full-time | $155,000–$175,000 performance bonus
The opportunity
Most finance jobs end when the P&L is delivered. This one starts there.
Apex Brand Collection is looking for a hands-on Director of Finance to become the senior
financial leader for a growing, multi-brand restaurant platform in Idaho and Southern California.
Today, the group represents approximately $15 million in annual restaurant sales across nine
active restaurants and managed venues. Our concepts include Hemlock, Spitfire Tacos
Tequila, Earlybird Breakfast Burritos and several independent hospitality projects. Over the next
18 months, we expect to open eight additional Earlybirds, a new investor-backed restaurant and
another managed venue in Boise.
We have accounting support. What we do not yet have is someone internally who owns the
complete financial picture, works directly with our GMs and turns the numbers into better
decisions. That is the job.
What you will own
- Accurate, reconciled restaurant P&Ls delivered within seven business days of period-end.
- Weekly flash reporting and monthly P&L working sessions with every General Manager.
- Annual budgets, rolling forecasts and a consolidated 13-week cash-flow forecast.
- Opening budgets and operating proformas for a significant new-store pipeline.
- Restaurant-level accountability for food cost, labor, inventory, purchasing, discounts and prime cost.
- Bank packages, line-of-credit reporting, lender requests and investor reporting.
- Vendor analysis, purchasing opportunities, rebate recovery and overpayment review.
- The transition from outsourced accounting to a scalable internal finance function.
- Selection and implementation of Restaurant365 or an adjacent restaurant accounting platform.
What this role is—and is not
This is a top finance seat with direct access to ownership and real authority to establish
standards and hold restaurant leaders accountable. It is not a remote report-production job, and
it is not a strategy title removed from accounting fundamentals.
You should be equally comfortable discussing a balance-sheet reconciliation, a meat-yield
problem, a labor schedule, a new-store sales ramp and a lender model. You will not inherit a
large accounting team on day one. You will have ownership support, outsourced transactional
help and the opportunity to build the right function as we grow.
You may be the right fit if you have
- At least five years of finance experience inside a multi-unit restaurant group.
- Led finance for 10 or more restaurant locations or a comparably complex hospitality platform.
- Personally owned month-end close, balance-sheet reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Built restaurant budgets, rolling forecasts, 13-week cash models and new-store proformas.
- Worked directly with GMs and operators to improve food cost, labor and restaurant-level
- profitability.
- Strong Excel and restaurant-systems capability; Restaurant365 experience is highly valued.
- A builder’s mindset and the willingness to get into the details while creating a better system.
CPA, CMA or MBA credentials are welcome but not required. Deep multi-unit restaurant
experience and demonstrated operating impact matter more to us.
Location and travel
Boise is strongly preferred, and relocation assistance is available. The position will travel
regularly to restaurants in Idaho and Southern California, generally around 20%. An exceptional
Southern California-based candidate may be considered if willing to work in Boise at least
monthly and travel throughout both markets.
Compensation
- $155,000–$175,000 base salary, based on experience and location.
- 15% target annual performance bonus, with opportunity to earn up to 20%.
- Health insurance, paid time off and relocation assistance.
- 401(k) program planned.
- Opportunity to grow into Vice President of Finance as the platform expands.
How to apply
Please submit your résumé and a short note answering the following:
- What is the largest multi-unit restaurant group you have supported, and what did you
personally own?
- Give one example of a financial insight that changed restaurant operations or materially improved profitability.
- What restaurant accounting or operating systems have you implemented or significantly
improved?
- Are you currently in Boise, open to relocation or proposing a Southern California-based
arrangement?
Direct applicants only.
