Job Description-IT Lab Computing Support Specialist
Job Summary
The IT Lab Computing Support Specialist is responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for computer labs, classroom technology, and shared computing environments. This role ensures that hardware, software, network connectivity, and lab systems operate efficiently to support students, faculty, staff, and organizational users.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Provide first- and second-level technical support for computer lab users.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, operating system, and network-related issues.
- Respond to service requests and support tickets within established service levels.
- Assist users with system access, software usage, and technical troubleshooting.
Lab Operations & Maintenance
- Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade desktop computers, laptops, printers, and peripheral devices.
- Ensure all lab equipment is operational and available for users.
- Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and patch management.
- Monitor lab environments and proactively address technical issues.
Software & System Administration
- Deploy and maintain standard software images and applications.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
- Support academic, research, engineering, or specialized software applications as required.
- Maintain system documentation and configuration records.
Classroom & Learning Technology Support
- Support classroom technology, audiovisual equipment, and presentation systems.
- Assist with technology setup for training sessions, workshops, and special events.
- Coordinate with faculty, instructors, and stakeholders to ensure technology readiness.
Asset & Inventory Management
- Track and maintain inventory of lab equipment and software licenses.
- Coordinate hardware replacements, repairs, and vendor support activities.
- Maintain accurate records of assets, configurations, and support activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience supporting Windows, macOS, and common productivity applications.
- Basic understanding of networking, system administration, and endpoint management.
- Strong troubleshooting and customer service skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting educational, research, engineering, or laboratory computing environments.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure AD, SCCM, Intune, or similar management tools.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A , Network , Microsoft, or ITIL Foundation.
