What are the responsibilities and job description for the Structural Engineer position at APEC-Automated Process Equipment Corporation?
Summary: Researches, develops, designs, documents, test and specifies mechanical components, equipment, and systems by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Structural Mechanical Engineering level 1
Responsibilities
Apply a working knowledge of structural design principles to equipment frames, platforms, supports, and bolted or welded connections. Evaluate load paths and perform basic stress and deflection checks. Coordinate with a licensed Professional Engineer when stamped calculations or drawings are required.
Experience with welded structural steel, equipment support frames, platforms, stairs, ladders, and bolted or welded connections is preferred. Experience performing or reviewing basic structural calculations is also preferred.
Point of contact for customers and in house questions about current or projected projects.
- Answer fabricator questions. Keep track and update document errors or design changes.
- Assist sales department with technical questions, specifications, etc. as required.
- Assist service manager and technicians with installation, troubleshooting, performance, replacement parts, etc.
Manage assigned jobs from kickoff to startup.
- Act as Primary Project Manager when assigned.
- Interface with customers to answer questions, provide project info, and gather data.
- Create approval drawings for new equipment orders.
- Create equipment drawings, flow diagrams, and equipment stack up drawings for quotations.
- Create BOM’s using Sage 100 software.
- Request quotes for new and projected buy out equipment and components, qualify vendors, and submit for purchasing.
- Create fabrication drawing packages that accurate and detailed.
- After final approval by Sales and customer, release the drawings and BOM package to scheduling for the creation of Work Order Travelers.
- Review and approve Work Order Travelers before Scheduling releases the purchased parts to the Purchasing Department.
- Ensure all documents are completed and submitted prior to ship date.
Monitor Progress
- Monitor daily process of a project once it is in the production phase.
- Produce weekly project status reports that are correct, up to date and relayed to customers and Sales department.
- Make sure that the design, timelines, and budgets are made for each project.
Risk assessment
- Assist in Identifying and resolving potential issues before job completion.
Quality Assurance
- Adhere to and enforce APEC’s companywide policy on quality.
- Perform inspection and testing of equipment upon completion of the project.
- From start to finish to reduce and or eliminate rework and delays.
- QA in process and completed jobs.
Documentation
- Create installation, user and service manuals to ship with equipment to job site.
- Ensure all testing and set-up documentation is completed and stored properly.
Product Improvement
- Research and engineer new designs/improvements.
- Maintain drawings for standard equipment as revisions and new designs are incorporated.
Work experience requirements: Previous work experience in a related industry. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, Solid Works, and AutoCAD.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university, or five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Pay: $76,862.51 - $92,565.60 per year
