An ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapist or RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) volunteer helps implement behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). The role focuses on working with individuals, often children, with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or other developmental conditions. Key responsibilities include:
- Behavior Intervention: Implementing individualized treatment plans designed by the BCBA, which aim to improve communication, social, and behavioral skills.
- Data Collection: Recording and monitoring the client's progress by collecting data on their behaviors and responses to the interventions.
- Skill Development: Assisting clients in learning new skills, such as communication, social interaction, and daily living tasks.
- Reinforcement: Using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage desired behaviors and reduce problematic ones.
- Collaboration: Working closely with parents, teachers, and other caregivers to ensure consistency in treatment across different environments.
As a External Therapist you do not work for APEC primarily but will be required to complete an application/background check for screening purposes.
Program Information
- APEC Afterschool locations are primarily based in the South Fulton GA area.
- Children report to us Monday – Friday from 2:20pm – 6:30pm (excluding school breaks).
- Each location supports 30 – 130 kids daily, ranging from ages 4-11.
- Our locations have several transitions/activities that will be implemented throughout the day (keep this in mind for clients who may have difficulty with transitions).
