APCO has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Software Developer in our control and automation consulting firm. We support critical infrastructure across an array of industries including refining, water treatment and reclamation, and manufacturing. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven problem solvers and able to work effectively with a team of engineers, integrators, and project managers to deliver high-quality custom software for demanding industrial environments.

This is a senior-level position with meaningful technical and professional scope within APCO. The selected candidate will lead the design and delivery of custom software solutions for clients and will also contribute to internal tools and utilities that support APCO’s operations. Key Responsibilities:

•      Design, develop, and deliver custom software solutions for APCO clients in the refining, manufacturing, and water/wastewater industries

•      Collaborate with control system engineers and project managers to define requirements and integrate software with industrial control systems

•      Build and maintain internal company tools and utilities that support engineering and operational workflows

•      Set up, configure, and validate software for industrial control system deployments

•      Troubleshoot and resolve software issues both remotely and in the field

•      Ensure delivered projects meet client specifications, industry standards, and APCO quality expectations

•      Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developers and engineering staff

•      Provide training to APCO engineering and/or clients on delivered systems

•      Coordinate effectively with other staff members on larger, multi-discipline projects

•      Willingness to travel; most projects take place along the Wasatch Front, but some may require occasional travel


Desirable Skills and Experience:

•      BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar field from an accredited college or university

•      5 years of professional software development experience with a demonstrated track record of delivering production systems

•      Strong full-stack development skills; proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript preferred

•      Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Digital Ocean

•      Strong understanding of database systems, particularly SQL-based systems; experience with NoSQL databases a plus

•      Familiarity with REST APIs, messaging and communication frameworks, and systems integration patterns

•      Familiarity networking and security a plus

•      Comfort working with modern development tooling, including version control, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-assisted coding tools

•      Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, project-driven environment

•      Effective communicator who can work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders


Compensation:

•      Annual salary and bonus commensurate with experience and background
