Civil Quality Control Technician

Position Summary
The Civil Quality Control Technician supports APC Construction’s field operations by performing inspections, testing coordination, and documentation to ensure heavy civil construction work meets project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. This role works closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and inspectors to maintain consistent quality throughout all phases of construction.
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable working in active outdoor construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Inspections & Verification
- Perform field inspections of civil construction activities
- Verify work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality requirements
- Assist with third‑party testing coordination (soil, concrete, compaction, etc.)
- Observe and document corrective actions when deficiencies are identified
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily quality logs and inspection records
- Review and track material certifications, test reports, and compliance documentation
- Assist in tracking non‑conformance items and verifying corrective actions
- Support preparation of as‑built records and project closeout documentation
- Maintain organized quality files for audits and owner turnover packages
Coordination & Support
- Work with the Civil Superintendent and Project Manager to identify quality concerns early
- Communicate inspection results clearly and professionally
- Support project quality planning and inspection/testing requirements
- Assist with inspections involving owners, engineers, or municipal agencies as needed
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in civil construction, inspection, or quality control
- Working knowledge of civil construction activities and terminology
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Basic understanding of applicable codes and standards (ASTM, ACI, municipal/DOT standards preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and documentation skills
- Proficient with basic computer applications and electronic reporting
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DOT or municipal infrastructure projects
- Familiarity with concrete and soils testing procedures
- Previous experience working alongside superintendents or inspectors
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs as required
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on uneven terrain
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and slopes
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work around trenches and excavations
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, boots, and high‑visibility apparel
