Serves as manager of detoxification unit. Clinical coordinator / shift supervisor of assigned unit activities and services and the provision of direct nursing services. Assists in planning, directing and monitoring services, groups and activities to ensure quality patient care and safety and compliance with applicable rules, policies and procedures.
Essential/Core Job-specific Duties And Responsibilities
- Serves as unit manager for Detoxification unit. Oversees and coordinates unit activities across all shifts in accordance with established procedures and plans. Provides direct supervision for assigned shift nursing staff (LPNs), MHAs, and Unit Clerk. Ensures unit operates in accordance with established policies and procedures and medical staff direction. Organizes shift staffing for effective and economical use of time, personnel, and materials. Ensures that work schedules and unit activities are implemented in accordance with established procedures, plans, and protocols.
- Serves as the Charge Nurse on the Detoxification Unit Monday through Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm, attending treatment team meetings daily with the psychiatrist and Admission Discharge Coordinator; participates in treatment planning and documentation requirements; conducts admission assessments and discharge paperwork per procedure; gives medications at defined times per ACI policy and documents per policy and procedures. Attends shift reports to ensure accurate and complete information is being passed on between shifts.
- Participates in the interviewing and selection of Nursing and Inpatient MHA personnel for hire. Provides new employee orientation and on-the-job training for all new nursing personnel (staff and contract) in accordance with established orientation program plans. Conducts or arranges for training and continuing education for nursing and other staff regarding treatment protocols, procedures, standards, etc. to ensure unit staff remains informed of Agency, licensing and community standards. Ensures the regular evaluation and supervision of nursing personnel to promote their growth and development and maintain a high standard of patient care on the unit. Collaborates with Administration, Human Resources and the Education and Training Departments in developing, implementing and evaluating programs/mechanisms used to promote the recruitment, retention, recognition, training and continuing education of nursing staff.
- Ensures ongoing program and unit compliance with applicable Joint Commission, AHCA, DCF and Agency Policies and Procedures. Facilitates ongoing maintenance of documentation to demonstrate compliance (e.g., via program procedures, staffing plans, meeting minutes, clinical records, etc.).
- Oversees and/or maintains unit compliance with applicable medication management, storage and narcotic control policies and procedures. Audits at least monthly to verify compliance with unit procedures and medication storage/handling requirements. Oversees the proper and accurate completion / update of patient MARs in accordance with unit procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes all applicable adverse incident reports on a daily basis and turns reviewed incident reports into the Inpatient Program Director on a timely basis (e.g., next working day) for review. Completes investigation and development/implementation of performance improvement or corrective action responses as appropriate or directed.
