What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Engineer position at AP Engineering PC?
What you’ll do
- Walk assigned streets in Edison and inspect the public sidewalk in front of every property
- Document defects: cracked or broken flags, undermined/settled panels, trip hazards (¼" or more), improper slope, hardware, tree-root damage, patchwork and scaling, missing sidewalk, asphalt sidewalk or driveway aprons
- Check corner pedestrian ramps for ADA/PROWAG compliance
- Take clear photos and field notes for each property; sketch conditions on the inspection form
- Measure with a tape, smart level, and straightedge
- Turn in daily field sheets and photos to the office engineer
Schedule and location
- Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day in the field, roughly 10–12 weeks starting on notice to proceed
- Based in Edison, NJ (Middlesex County)
- Expect to travel to the Bronx about once a week for our NYC DDC pedestrian ramp projects
- Field work pauses during winter weather
Requirements
- Able to walk 6–8 miles a day in all weather, on your feet all day
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
- Smartphone for photos; comfortable with basic apps and email
- Careful, consistent note-taker — the report depends on your field sheets
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
- AutoCAD or Visio
Nice to have
- Sidewalk, pedestrian ramp, or construction inspection experience (NYC DDC/DOT a plus)
- Familiarity with ADA/PROWAG standards
- OSHA-10
You will also need to go to the Bronx, NY 1x a week or so. You will be with a small engineering team providing support for 2 senior engineers. This will just be taking notes and photos.
Pay: $27.00 per hour
