Role:
Responsible for examining and evaluating Credit Union operations, internal controls and adherence to rules and regulations through risk-based audits. Provides independent and objective assurance that proper controls and safeguards are in place to protect the Credit Union from loss and exposure. Ensures audit work complies with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Develops, plans, performs, documents and completes risk-based audits, complying with departmental procedures and charter. Gathers evidentiary support; makes recommendations for improvement; and monitors implementation of management’s action plans.
•Identify the key control points of the system by utilizing various techniques and methods to determine the nature of operations and the effectiveness and adequacy of the system of internal control to achieve established objectives.
•Assist in determining the scope of the proposed audit including the procedures and program to be used.
•Obtain, analyze, and appraise evidentiary data as a basis for an informed, objective opinion on the adequacy and effectiveness of the system and the efficiency or performance of the activities being reviewed.
•Prepare summaries of the audit procedures performed and the results achieved at the conclusion of each audit.
•Assist in developing recommendations for remedial action to improve operations within an agreed upon implementation schedule. Conduct follow-up discussion and tests to ascertain whether agreed upon corrective measures have been implemented.
•Facilitate and organize the collection of items for external audits and regulatory examinations.
•Provides consultative assistance to management and staff.
•Stays abreast of all Internal Audit industry code of ethics and standards, as well as all applicable State, Federal and NCUA laws and regulations regarding Credit Union operations.
Qualifications:Knowledge and Skills:
Experience 5 years of internal audit or similar related experience. Broad knowledge of financial institution industry and regulatory environment.
Education (1) A job related bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Professional Certification as recognized by the Internal Audit professions such as CFSA, CBSO, COO, CIA, and CCUIA.
Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
