Position: National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) Instructor – 25% Position
Location: Johnson County Schools
Reports To: School Principal and/or Designated Administrator
Position Summary
Johnson County Schools is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to serve as a 25% National Defense Cadet Corps (NDCC) Instructor. The instructor will assist in developing and implementing a leadership-focused program that promotes citizenship, character development, personal responsibility, academic achievement, and community service among students. The successful candidate will serve as a positive role model while fostering leadership, discipline, teamwork, and respect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and assist in delivering NDCC instruction and activities.
- Teach leadership, citizenship, character development, and military-related curriculum in accordance with NDCC program guidelines.
- Supervise and mentor cadets in classroom and extracurricular settings.
- Support drill teams, color guards, ceremonies, inspections, field trips, and community service projects as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, inventories, and program documentation.
- Promote student achievement, discipline, teamwork, and leadership development.
- Encourage high standards of conduct, responsibility, and personal growth among cadets.
- Work collaboratively with school administrators, faculty, parents, and community partners.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and NDCC program requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as an NDCC or JROTC instructor.
- Prior military service, preferably with leadership, training, or instructional experience.
- Experience working with youth in educational, leadership development, mentoring, or military-affiliated programs.
- Knowledge of military customs, courtesies, leadership principles, drill and ceremony procedures, and character education programs.
- Retired or former military officer or noncommissioned officer (NCO) with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, any certifications or approvals required for NDCC instruction.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to participate in outdoor training activities, ceremonies, drills, and other program-related events.
- Ability to supervise students in a variety of instructional and extracurricular settings.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Terms of Employment
- Part-time position (25%).
- Salary and employment conditions in accordance with Johnson County Schools policies and applicable salary schedules.
