Role Summary
The Sr. Systems Engineer, Network and Applications role will support the technical operations of MTN-TV Service and its IP-based content distribution platform. This is a high-visibility, hands-on technical role responsible for deploying and maintaining IT/IP network infrastructure, applications, and systems essential to the seamless delivery of live and on-demand TV services. Reporting directly to the Director of Technology, you’ll collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and partners to build and operate a robust, scalable, and reliable TV content platform. You will play a key role in ensuring exceptional quality, uptime, and performance of our broadcasting and streaming services, leveraging the latest innovations in networking, cloud, and content delivery technologies. This position requires onsite presence and availability for on-call support during technical emergencies including weekend coverage during scheduled live broadcast events.

What You’ll Be Doing
Technology Application Support
Setup, maintain, configure and troubleshoot IT/IP Networks, servers, and software applications, related to IP, Cloud and TV content delivery platforms, including on-prem infrastructure, Internet connectivity, and streaming clusters.
Prepare and test network connections (Internet, EVPL, P2P, MPLS) for live TV broadcasts, ensuring devices are fully configured and operational before events.

What You’ll Be Doing
Technology Application Support
Setup, maintain, configure and troubleshoot IT/IP Networks, servers, and software applications, related to IP, Cloud and TV content delivery platforms, including on-prem infrastructure, Internet connectivity, and streaming clusters.
- Develop, deploy and maintain new servers, OS (Windows and Linux), applications, widgets, APIs, and apps aim to optimize products, services, operations, efficiency and reliability.
- Follow and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) to minimize service disruptions. Generate, follow and enforce SOP practices to mitigate services interruptions.
Prepare and test network connections (Internet, EVPL, P2P, MPLS) for live TV broadcasts, ensuring devices are fully configured and operational before events.
- Monitor systems and troubleshoot real-time issues to maintain uninterrupted live broadcast services.
- Provide on-call/on-site support during technical issues and be available on weekends during critical live broadcast events.
- Set up and manage Zixi streaming servers, applications, IP stream configurations, and performance enhancements.
- Monitor Zixi clusters for performance, packet loss, channel alarms, and connectivity issues, ensuring reliable stream delivery.
- Design, implement, and document the IT architecture supporting video acquisition, processing, and distribution.
- Integrate third-party systems including servers, firewalls, transcoders, and cloud services.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment that promotes innovation and growth.
- Maintain network documentation (IP schemes, multicast addresses, provider interfaces, etc.) and proactively address network issues.
- Ensure stable and high-quality service delivery through effective network management.
- Technology Innovation & Project Execution:
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends such as 5G, cloud computing, and AI to drive innovation in TV delivery.
- Ensure systems comply with industry standards and best practices.
- Build robust monitoring dashboards and diagnostic protocols for service quality and uptime.
- Systems Planning & Delivery Support:
- Contribute to cross-functional planning and discussions around satellite and terrestrial delivery.
- Support procurement of hardware, software, and services for IT-related operations.
- Strong understanding of IP networking, multicast/unicast streaming, UDP, RTP, RTMP, IGMP protocols.
- Familiar with video/audio signal processing, DRM, encryption (AES128/256, DVB CA), encoding (MPEG-2, H.264, HEVC, AV1), and multiplexing (SPTS, MPTS).
- General understanding of video and audio signal processing, file-based systems, on-air management, and live TV satellite distribution.
- Experience leading or working within cross-functional teams and managing projects from inception to completion.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially in live operational environments.
- Clear communicator, able to explain complex topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially under pressure during live events.
- Industry certifications in IT, cloud platforms, or project management (e.g., PMP, AWS Certified, CCNA, CCIE).
- Hands-on experience with Zixi ZenMaster and other cloud-based media delivery systems.
- Proven experience with Windows OS, Linux and IT networking configurations, test and deployment for servers, dockers, switches, routers, firewalls, etc.
- 5 years of experience in IT networking and applications, ideally within the broadcast or streaming media industry.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
- Proven expertise in configuring switches, routers, firewalls (e.g., Cisco, Fortinet, Juniper), and systems (e.g., Dell, HPE, and Supermicro).
- Hands-on experience with Windows, Linux (Ubuntu, AlmaLinux, Red Hat), and containerized/cloud-based deployments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with IP-based TV delivery systems and technologies such as encoding, packaging, CDN interfacing, Zixi, SRT, RIST, HLS, and MPEG-DASH.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders with a client-focused attitude.
- Ability to stay current with evolving broadcast and streaming technology trends.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Familiarity with budgeting and cost management for technology initiatives.
- Motivated, goal oriented, persistent and a skilled negotiator.
