What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heat to Power System Test Intern position at Antora Energy?
Position Summary
Antora Energy is seeking a highly motivated Heat To Power System Test Intern to support the development and testing of our thermophotovoltaic (TPV)-based Solid-State Heat Engine (SSHE) prototypes. Over the course of this 10-week internship, you will rapidly become proficient with Antora's high-temperature test platforms and play a hands-on role in executing, improving, and documenting critical test campaigns.
This internship is designed for candidates who want real ownership and technical impact. Reliable, high-quality testing is central to accelerating Antora's Heat-to-Power technology development, and you will be expected to deliver meaningful improvements to test procedures, instrumentation, or hardware that benefits future development efforts.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Execute multiple SSHE prototype test campaigns, including setup, operation, and monitoring of high-temperature test systems
- Collect, validate, and deliver post-test measurement datasets used in design iteration, performance evaluation, and reliability analysis
- Design and implement at least one hardware, instrumentation, or procedural improvement to increase test reliability, repeatability, or usability
- Troubleshoot test issues involving sensors, thermal systems, mechanical assemblies, controls, or data acquisition
- Produce or update test procedures, safety documentation, and/or controls logic to reduce friction for future operators
Key Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Energy Systems, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience with experimental hardware, tools, fixtures, sensors, or test equipment (academic, research, or industry)
- Demonstrated attention to data quality, repeatability, and experimental rigor
- Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical, thermal, electrical, or instrumentation issues
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with experience documenting procedures or results
- Strong safety awareness when working with physical systems, electricity, or elevated temperatures
Additional Qualifications Desired
- Experience with high-temperature systems, thermal testing, furnaces, heaters, or vacuum environments
- Familiarity with data acquisition systems (e.g., Python-based DAQ, PLCs, or similar)
- Experience with instrumentation such as thermocouples, pyrometers, pressure sensors, current/voltage measurement, or optical diagnostics
