CLASS TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL VICE PRINCIPAL
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Principal, plan, organize and direct educational operations, activities and services at an assigned high school including curriculum, and instructional programs, processes and procedures; coordinate discipline functions, welfare and guidance services, testing and evaluation, fiscal functions, communications, personnel, articulation and information to enhance student learning and development and assure smooth and efficient activities; supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Plan, organize and direct educational operations, activities and services at an assigned high school including curriculum, and instructional programs, processes and procedures; assist the Principal with directing the day-to-day activities of assigned school site; assist in establishing and maintaining related time lines and priorities; assist in assuring related activities comply with established standards, requirements, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Coordinate discipline functions, welfare and guidance services, testing and evaluation, fiscal functions, communications, personnel, articulation and information to enhance student learning and development and assure smooth and efficient activities; assist in the development and implementation of school programs, services, schedules, goals, objectives, plans, strategies, standards, projects, processes and procedures.
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; coordinate subordinate work assignments and review work to assure compliance with established standards, requirements and procedures; develop, implement and evaluate school-level staff development programs.
Coordinate communications, programs, services and information between teachers, administrators, staff, outside agencies, students, parents and the public; investigate and resolve student, administrative, faculty and staff issues, conflicts and complaints; provide timely and effective communications regarding incidents or situations which might impact the District.
Assist in maintaining a positive school image; develop and implement strategies for maintaining and enhancing the external and internal image of the school and District; assist with providing effective leadership for instructional and non-instructional services for staff, faculty, students and the public; assist with developing and implementing school community relations programs.
Assist with a variety of activities to enhance faculty understanding of educational practices, instructional material guidelines and requirements, curriculum and instructional strategies; coordinate, monitor, implement and assist with developing and revising curriculum standards and instructional strategies.
Develop, implement, coordinate and supervise student discipline programs and functions according to established policies and procedures; research and prepare materials for conferences, meetings and other events related to student discipline; implement or provide recommendations concerning disciplinary actions; coordinate student attendance programs and related discipline functions.
Coordinate school articulation efforts with other educational levels, schools and agencies; supervise articulation functions to assure student preparedness for college and other educational institutions; develop, implement and oversee student course selection and class loading programs and procedures.
Assist in assuring adequate personnel, instructional materials and resources to meet educational needs at assigned site; monitor and assist in determining staffing needs; initiate recruitment activities as appropriate; coordinate the purchase of equipment and materials as necessary; assure proper cleaning and maintenance of assigned site facilities as required; supervise and control the use and operation of the school plant.
Coordinate student testing programs, enrollment, registration, attendance accounting and support functions to meet educational needs, goals and objectives; coordinate and direct student record, counseling and guidance programs.
Provide consultation to personnel, faculty, administrators, parents and others concerning school operations and activities; respond to inquiries and provide detailed and technical information concerning related programs, services, students, standards, requirements, issues, principles, practices, techniques, goals, objectives, priorities, laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures.
Oversee and participate in the preparation and maintenance of various records, reports and files related to programs, services, students, budgets, incidents, accountability, financial activity, personnel, attendance and assigned duties; prepare and assist in assuring mandated reports are submitted to appropriate local, State or federal agency in accordance with established time lines.
Assist in the development and preparation of the annual preliminary budget for assigned high school; review and evaluate financial data; control and authorize expenditures in accordance with established limitations; develop, coordinate and monitor Associated Student Body funds.
Develop, implement, monitor and coordinate the school’s programs of student and campus activities; supervise and evaluate co-curricular programs and activities at the school site; develop and coordinate the school’s master calendar.
Coordinate campus activities and health and safety programs to assure the health, well-being and safety of students and staff in classroom and non-classroom activities; assist with coordinating response to emergency situations involving staff, students and others.
Monitor and evaluate assigned school services for educational and financial effectiveness; assist in the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures to enhance the educational and financial effectiveness of assigned school operations and activities.
Maintain current knowledge of educational methods, practices and standards related to school operations and related laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; assist in modifying programs and services to assure compliance with standards and requirements as needed.
Serve as the Principal in the absence of the administrator as needed; provide technical information and assistance to the Principal regarding school activities, needs and issues; assist in the formulation and development of policies, procedures and programs; implement and administer employee collective bargaining agreements for the school site.
Communicate with administrators, personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and programs and resolve issues or concerns; oversee and participate in preparing and distributing a variety of correspondence and informational materials.
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Coordinate, attend and conduct department, faculty and other school staff meetings as assigned; present materials and information concerning school operations and related issues, needs and activities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: bachelor’s degree and four years educational experience including two years teaching experience and two years in an administrative capacity.
