The Director of Youth Development will report to the Chief of Programs and work closely with ARC departments including Housing, Member Services, Workforce and Education, and all other departments and staff to manage and enhance Youth programming throughout the organization. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with Transition Age Youth (TAY), demonstrating a strong sense of teamwork, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Key attributes include the ability to prioritize tasks, practice flexibility, exercise good judgment, and handle confidential information with integrity. The role requires strategic vision and execution capabilities, leadership by example, patience, empathy, and the ability to foster an environment where both staff and members thrive. The role involves holding youth accountable without criminalizing normal adolescent behavior, while also preparing them for success by guiding them with life skills coaching, career development, and housing.


Essential Job Functions

· Create new and innovative programming and curricula for ARC emerging adult support groups.

· Support the creation of program plans and budgets for new programs/projects.

· Participate in brainstorming sessions for new opportunities and general expansion support/input.

· Work with team members to recruit and engage with TAY membership.

· Develop, manage, and coordinate high-quality support for all weekly ARC groups and individual services for ARC’s emerging adult members.

· Oversee and support the facilitation of ARC social-emotional groups geared toward emerging adults.

· Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community-based organizations, local government, and law enforcement to leverage reentry support services.

· Support ARC’s internal data analyst with program evaluation, including data collection and analysis.

· Develop and mentor staff, including formerly incarcerated staff members, for leadership positions at ARC.

· Stay current with the latest research on youth development and implement new learnings into ARC youth programming.

· Supervise the day-to-day operations of the assigned department, including supervision of direct reports.

· Support ARC’s external reporting for various funded projects.

· Prepare department reports for quarterly Board of Directors meetings.

· Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Deputy and/or Executive Director.

· Participate in weekly Directors’ meetings and other interdepartmental meetings as necessary.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s required, Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

· Minimum of seven years of experience working with youth, particularly in the youth justice field.

· An in-depth understanding of challenges facing transition age youth as well as the ability to identify their sources of strengths and resilience.

· Demonstrated history of developing strength-based TAY programming.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

· Experience in program development, grant and budget management; managing contracts; and developing, and drafting reports.

· Familiarity with current academic, policy, and professional discourse and research on positive youth development.

· Experience with case management or treatment-focused databases preferred.

· Highly motivated and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment.

· Reliable transportation and a current California Driver’s License with valid registration and insurance.

· Strong supervisory and staff-development skills.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; drive; use hands and fingers; handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk; and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch (The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Salary/Benefits

· Salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000 annually, depending on experience.

· Multiple employer medical/dental/ vision plans with up to 100% employee coverage, 50% for dependents.

· 10 paid vacation days, 6 paid sick days.
