PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Implement initiatives, activities and services to advance ADL’s mission across eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware. Serve as primary staff member responsible for communications, public relations, marketing and digital engagement in the region. Will also have significant responsibility responding to antisemitic incidents in Region. Additional work areas may include some or all of the following: interfaith and intergroup outreach, events planning, government advocacy, young leadership and fundraising. Provide staff support to assigned committees. May assist the Regional Director with office operations.
Responsibilities:
Primary:
  • Draft, edit and ghostwrite a wide variety of outward-facing communications to diverse audiences. In consultation with senior regional and national staff, publish press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, emails, letters, speeches, presentations, reports, blogs, social media posts and other content on behalf of the Philadelphia Regional Office to the general public, lay leaders, elected officials, educators, media outlets and other regional stakeholders.
  • Consult with senior Regional Operations and national staff on developing overarching communications strategies and specific approaches to individual pieces.
  • Respond to inquiries from the press and members of the public. Read, monitor and respond to media reports and opinion articles.
  • In coordination with the Associate Regional Director, respond to and resolve reports of antisemitism, bias, discrimination and other civil rights issues and incidents. Conduct fact-finding research as needed. Coordinate with Regional Operations, Civil Rights Area Counsel and other key regional and national staff as appropriate. Ensure that required records are maintained.
  • Manage ADL’s database of reporters and journalists. Build and maintain relationships with members of the media.
  • Demonstrate authoritative knowledge of ADL’s policies and positions and relevant local, national and world events.
  • Manage ADL’s digital presence in the region, including website, newsletter, social media and other digital media. Regularly create and distribute online content that is engaging, professional and consistent with ADL policies, positions and voice.
  • Measure and grow ADL’s online footprint in the region based on a variety of metrics.
  • Assist regional staff with marketing, including designing and distributing promotional materials.
  • Serve as ADL’s Brand Ambassador for the Philadelphia region and ensure that outward-facing materials from the office are aligned with ADL’s brand guidelines.
  • Provide staff support and programming to lay-led committees as assigned.
  • Undertake ad hoc research projects and provide special events assistance as required by the Regional Director.
  • May assist with organizing and staffing programs, projects and special events as needed.
    As needed, represent ADL and give speeches in a variety of forums to promote public awareness of ADL’s mission.
  • In coordination with senior regional and national staff, maintain partnerships with key organizations and individuals in the region as needed.
  • As needed and in coordination with senior regional and national staff, support government affairs activities and advocate for ADL issues with local government officials.
  • May participate in fundraising events, cultivate potential donors and assist in maintaining donor relationships.
  • May supervise summer interns as assigned.
  • May provide administrative support to special events, board retreats and regular board meetings.
  • May assist the Regional Director, Senior Associate Regional Director and Associate Regional Director in ensuring the smooth-functioning of the regional office.
Qualifications:
Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Good computer skills.

Work Experience:
  • One to two years of progressively responsible communications, public relations, marketing, human relations or related experience.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Completed graduate coursework preferred.
Work Environment:
  • ADL COVID-19 Protocol (updated periodically): ADL is adhering to public health guidance regarding COVID-19. ADL is a hybrid environment; this role may require 3 days in the office.
Compensation:
  • This position has a salary range of $49,000 to $65,000. This salary range is reflective of a position based in Philadelphia, PA. Please note that actual salaries are commensurate with experience and reflect the budget for a given position, and since ADL has a location-based compensation structure, there may be a different range for candidates in other locations.
