Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Technical
- Coordinates PC and hardware set-up
- Interacts with Laboratory and ITSG for project development and problem resolution
- Directs the maintenance/development of data dictionaries, charge and revenue tables, test tables, reports, interfaces, and revisions in the LIS and APS
- Troubleshoots unexpected problems with the LIS/BBS utilizing ITSG support as necessary
- Develops patient management report formats
- Retrieves patient results from archived medical records
- Coordinates orientation of laboratory staff, other department users, and physician offices in the use of the LIS, APS and BBS
- Non-technical
- Communicates with laboratory staff, nursing staff, and physicians concerning any deviations regarding testing and reporting of results
- Takes sick calls and assists in replacement of staff when necessary
- Attends required meetings as instructed by the Laboratory Director
- Assists with regulatory inspections as necessary
- Transports specimens and supplies between the main Medical Center lab and satellite locations
- Adds support to other Laboratory staff as needed
Knowledge
- Knowledge of how laboratory results are delivered to clinicians
- Knowledge of specimen and testing requirements
- Knowledge of safe handling of biological specimens
- Knowledge of HIS/LIS/APS software database
- Knowledge of departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures that support the provision of service

- Requires frequent lifting of less than 10 lbs., with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.

- Bachelor's degree that will satisfy the requirements for a Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the State of California Department of Public Health
- Knowledge generally acquired through three years of general clinical laboratory experience
- Minimum of one year’s experience in informatics is preferable
- Minimum of one year’s experience at an acute care hospital is desirable
- Possession of a current Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the State of California Department of Public Health
