Job Objective: A Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients as established by the Nursing Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of the State of California and as guided by policies and procedures of the Medical Center.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Nursing Process
  • Apply nursing process in direct patient care.
  • Provides accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs of patients as evidenced by assessment within time frame appropriate for level of care
  • Provides logical sequence of action, updates nursing care plan as evidenced by notations on care plan, provides evaluation each shift of patient's progress in relation to the patient care plan, if applicable to area of care
  • Provides Information to patient/family relating to educational resources available, Directs patient/family educational process
  • Provides discharge planning beginning on admission with appropriate referrals and update as required by the patient
  • Adheres to the admission and transfer criteria
  • Adheres to all current policies and procedures in providing patient care and seek clarification if needed.
  • Evaluates and documents outcomes of medical, nursing, and ancillary team interventions
  • Incorporates time management skills in accomplishing care

  • Knowledgeable regarding current nursing practices and procedures

  • Reports hazardous conditions to appropriate department for correction
  • Uses clean and aseptic techniques for protection of patients and personal safety
  • Prevents contamination and/or transfer of Infection by use of the Exposure Control Plan and Standard Precautions in daily work

Education and Experience:

Education

  • Adheres to required educational standards

  • Successfully completes written and practical competencies annually or otherwise as assigned.

Experience

  • Two years' acute care nursing preferred; new grad training provided as appropriate

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

  • Current California Registered Nursing license
  • BCLS Certification
  • ACLS, PALS, and/or other additional Certifications required for some specialty areas
  • Resuscitation credentials such as (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.) are required before completion of orientation period.

Job Objective: The RN in OPTC and GI Laboratory is specially trained to assist with patient procedures and endoscopy procedures. Also provides safe, cost effective, direct patient care throughout the Outpatient Treatment Center visit according to established nursing plan of care utilizing Medical Center standards, policies and procedures.


Essential Duties:

Nursing Process:

A. Applies nursing process in direct patient care.

1. Assists with and carries out functions required to safely perform all Outpatient Treatment Center procedures.

2. Perform pre-procedure admission to determine the necessary course of action.

3. Assess patients coming into the unit for angiograms or surgical procedures.

4. Assess and perform certain procedures such as endoscopy, bronchoscopy, epidural steroid injections, biopsies etc. and recover patient after procedure.

5. Monitor EKG, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, on patients pre, during, and post procedures.

6. Competently assist physician in providing instrumentation and supplies needed for performing medical and invasive procedures.

7. Performs various transfusions and IV Therapy.

8. Performs procedures utilizing conscious sedation.

9. Educate patient/family relating to procedures, surgeries and/or care.

10. Discharge patients having medical procedures.


Non-Essential Duties

  • Helps with scheduling, charging and logging.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pre, during and post procedure care.
  • Knowledge of anatomy (normal and abnormal).
  • Knowledge of therapeutic interventions.
  • Knowledge of medications specific to the area.
  • Knowledge of conscious sedation protocol.
