The Hospitalist Emergency /Infusion Advance Practice Provider is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care across hospitalist emergency and infusion services within a Critical Access Hospital. This advanced practice provider works collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, and other clinical team members to assess, diagnose, treat, and monitor patients in accordance with scope of practice, organizational policies, and applicable state and federal regulations. The provider supports continuity of care for emergency, inpatients, patients receiving infusion therapy, responds to urgent clinical needs, and helps promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history, physical examination, review of laboratory and diagnostic results, and formulation of appropriate treatment plans.

· Provide hospitalist emergency services for assigned patients, including admissions, daily rounding, discharge planning, follow-up, and care coordination.

· Evaluate patients prior to infusion treatment and determine readiness for therapy in collaboration with the care team.

· Order, manage, and monitor infusion therapies and related supportive treatments within scope of practice and approved protocols.

· Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition, infusion reactions, and other urgent or emergent clinical situations.

· Document patient encounters, assessments, orders, treatments, and follow-up plans accurately and timely in the medical record.

· Order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and medications as permitted by licensure, privileging, and organizational policy.

· Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, pharmacy, case management, and ancillary departments to support coordinated, high-quality patient care.

· Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, infusion therapies, medications, side effects, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.

· Participate in one call night every two weeks and respond appropriately to patient care needs during assigned call periods.

· Support quality improvement, patient safety, compliance, and infection prevention initiatives.

· Maintain clinical competencies, licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements necessary for the role.

· Perform additional duties as assigned to support hospital and infusion service operations.

Qualifications

· Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the applicable state.

· Graduate degree from an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant program.

· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification, ATLS, PAL and NRP preferred or required based on organizational policy.

· Experience in hospital medicine, acute care, infusion services, emergency care, or closely related clinical setting preferred.

· Strong clinical judgment, assessment skills, and ability to manage acute patient care needs.

· Excellent communication, teamwork, documentation, and organizational skills.

· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist with patient care activities for extended periods. The provider must be able to respond quickly in urgent situations, use standard clinical equipment, and maintain consistent attendance for scheduled shifts and call responsibilities. Work is performed in hospital emergency room and infusion care settings with regular exposure to patients, bodily fluids, and other healthcare-related environmental conditions. Appropriate safety and infection control practices must be followed at all times.
