Term of Employment: 10 months (part-time, Tuesday/Thursday)
Salary: Based on NC Teaching Salary Schedule
Qualifications:
• Must hold an NC teaching license
• Bachelors in education
• Employment contingent upon NC teacher licensure
Description
This position requires a dynamic individual to teach Health & Physical Education at the K-12 school level. Applicants must have a working knowledge of the NC Standards and Grade Expectations and be willing to work with a diverse population of students in our middle school. Applicants should have a strong background in Health & Physical Education. The ideal candidate will be certified to teach in NC and will have a strong background in content as well as proven instructional strategies and classroom management. We are seeking and individual who is willing to be part of a professional learning community to support the education of all students. Masters Degree preferred, but not required.
1. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by ACS and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law.
3. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning and implementing a balanced physical education program.
4. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
5. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with course standards.
6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
7. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students.
8. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, census forms, and other record keeping activities as necessary.
9. Maintains control of storage and use of school property.
10. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills, knowledge and contribution in team sports.
11. Communicates with parents and school counselor on student progress.
12. Supervises students in out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
13. Administers testing in accordance with state testing practices.
14. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and attitude problems.
15. Develops and maintains a list of research material appropriate to the subject taught.
16. Effectively use technology and resources for their class.
17. High level of concentration and attention to detail.
