What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Engineer position at ANPC?
ANPC is a global supplier of precision approach guidance and area surveillance solutions aimed at improving the safety and capacity of civil and military aviation for customers on all seven continents. Our transponder-based solutions are designed to serve airfields where others cannot. We are a team of extraordinary professionals working together to perform an important mission to uniquely serve airports with terrain, obstacles and other challenges that no other business can provide.
Job Summary
We aren’t looking for a "cubicle-only" engineer. You’ll be the counterpart to the team on the production floor—the bridge between a high-level concept and a physical reality. We deal with hundreds of different tech branches, so if you get bored doing the same thing every day, you’ll love it here. You need to be as comfortable with a rapid prototype as you are with a formal requirements-based design.
Essential Job Functions
- Full-Lifecycle Design: Establish, maintain, and control both allocated and derived requirements. You’ll handle everything from "napkin-sketch" prototypes to rigorous, FAA designs with high design assurance.
- Production Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with the folks on the production floor. This role requires strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles, ensuring our designs are practical to build.
- Documentation & Precision: Act as both a Drafter and a Checker. You will create detailed design documentation, manage configuration control, and build/maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Technical Analysis: Perform detailed mechanical design, including tolerance stack-up analysis and DFM.
- Safety Analysis: Use structured processes like Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Human Error Analysis (HEA), etc. to ensure compliance to design assurance levels.
- Prototyping & Testing: Procure materials and get your hands dirty constructing prototype assemblies. You will also support environmental test facilities, ensuring our gear survives the real world.
- Verification: Generate verification procedures and conduct testing (e.g., stability and structural suitability) to ensure compliance.
- Quality & Peer Support: Participate in Configuration Control Boards (CCB) and Material Review Boards (MRB). You’ll also conduct peer reviews of other engineers' work to keep our standards high.
Education and Work Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3-5 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer, specifically in the design and development of electro-mechanical devices.
- Experience with SOLIDWORKS or other 3D computer-aided design and engineering software.
Nice to Have
- Experience in DO-160 and DO-254
- Knowledge of IPC 610 and 620 standards
