The Anoka County Human Services Division has a current vacancy for the position of Child Support Officer. Anoka County Child Support Officers are primarily providing case management services to parents and caretakers by enforcing court orders pertaining to child support, medical support and childcare support, while helping families maintain or achieve self-sufficiency. Primary case management tasks include monitoring cases for compliance with court orders, collecting payments, reconciling accounts and maintaining case records. Child Support Officers also work closely with the Anoka County Attorney’s Office in initiating appropriate legal actions and completing legal documents.

Normal hiring rate: $19.67 to $20.26 per hour ($40,913 to $42,140 annually).
2021 full salary range: $19.67 to $29.80 per hour ($40,913 to $61,984 annually).
Upon successful completion of an initial hire probationary period, employees will be reviewed for a potential pay increase, and reviewed at least annually thereafter.
Hours
Full-time; 40 hours per pay week.
Work schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Schedule may vary based on business needs and at supervisor discretion.
Selection Process
The examination/selection process for this classification will consist of a review of your training and experience from the application materials submitted. The most qualified candidates will be invited for an oral exam and/or interview. Oral exams will take place on June 7, 2021.

- Manages caseload to ensure the collection of child support is in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
- Performs client interviews and opens new case files.
- Maintains a high level of professionalism when communicating with clients, sometimes in the state of emotional and mental distress and limited problem-solving skills.
- Presents and communicates complex information to others.
- Reviews and collects on delinquency reports.
- Recaptures revenue, intercepts projects, and calculates moderately complex payments.
- Loads court orders.
- Maintains computer databases for all information regarding assigned cases – updates information, corrects inaccuracies and documents case activities or related correspondence in case files.
- Conducts interviews, gathers information and decides appropriate legal action.
- Attends unit meetings and trainings to stay informed and up to date on departmental, county, state and/or federal changes and regulations.
- Initiates contact with absent parent(s) and/or location activity and responds to lack of cooperation by oblige, obligor and employers.
- Testifies in court hearings or appeals to present evidence and facts.
- Adheres to IRS data privacy, HIPPA standards and DHS confidentiality.
- Associate degree and one year (2,080 annual hours) of full-time work experience in child support, collections, legal services, accounting, banking, public welfare or social services/corrections case management.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. and two years (2,080 annual hours) of full-time work experience in child support, collections, legal services, accounting, banking, public welfare or social services/corrections case management.
- Successfully pass a criminal history background check.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Paid work experience creating and enforcing legal documents.
- Paid work experience in the collection of debt.
- Paid work experience providing customer service.
- Knowledge of community resources, standard office practices and procedures and laws and ethics related to data privacy.
- Knowledge of federal and state statutes and regulations relating to child support enforcement and the legal process as well as the legal process relating to child support.
- Skill in negotiating, legal analysis, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Effective communication skills and proficient with punctuation, vocabulary, and the English language.
- Ability to efficiently prioritize, organize and accurately process a caseload to meet multiple demands and deadlines as well as the ability to work independently and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret and follow complex oral and written instructions.
- Work is primarily performed in an Anoka County office building.
- Remote work may be available.
