Duties
- Review medical records and documentation to assign appropriate ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision) and CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Process medical bills through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, verifying all coding aligns with payer requirements.
- Follow up on unpaid claims by initiating medical collections, appealing denied claims, and resolving billing discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain comprehensive and organized medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare provider to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy, enhancing revenue cycle management.
- Stay updated on changes in ICD coding standards, medical terminology, and billing regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Fill in for Receptionist as needed, answer phones, collect co-pays, verify insurance.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, demonstrating familiarity with EMR/EHR systems.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10 coding systems, CPT coding procedures.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and medical records management is essential.
- Experience in handling medical collections processes and insurance claim submissions is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately and translate it into precise codes.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to maintain accurate billing records and ensure compliance with industry standards.
